looking for watering system ideas

i had to move my girls from inside to outside due to some security issues. I moved them up to the mountains near where I live. they are planted near a small creek that feeds a swampy beaver dam. I planted them on the waters edge and i am familiar with the area and know that eventually the water there will dry up. It is a long drive from where I live, so I am trying to gather ideas on a watering system(reservoir drip system) that would not need to be constantly refilled. It is only two plants so lets hear some ideas:hump:

once the plants get established and the roots are deep it will need less frequent watering.
you could apply some mulch around the plant and that will help retain water for a little longer. just use something that matches the surrounding area so the mulch doesnt stick out like a sore thumb.
ive heard of people taking 5 gallon buckets with a couple a very small holes in the bottom, fill it and set it near the plants. the bucket will drip slowly and will help with the watering.
as long as you dont get severe dry spells then the rain will keep it moist enough.

whats the tank and wick method?
with the wick method, if your growing in buckets, just put one bucket in the other which will create a resevoir between the two where the water can be wicked up into the top bucket with the medium in it...of course with wicks running into the soil to the resevoir below ...works great! bottom feeding too which i believe makes for a better root system being that it feeds when it needs to and the roots will reach down into the soil searching for the water...:leaf:

be careful on how close you have them next to the water...weed cannot stand completely saturated ground for any extended period of time. :peace:

they are in the ground so i cant do the wick method. i made sure the roots are not saturated. try to vision a swamp with an island that sticks up about a foot above the water level. they are on that island! what I was thinking was to get a oil barrel( 50 gal) and drill two tiny wholes to drip to the plants when it starts to dry out. :bigjoint:

get a water timer from home depote 25 bucks 9volt hook it to a 35 50 gallon drum .from the timer run drip set up wal-mart has a cheap set up.set the timer to water when ever you want to and for as long as you want to.I just put a set up togeather today.the name of timer Vigoro Electric Water Timer.keep the water higher than your plants. My drum will be 6 feet of the ground. It will make more water preashure.the drip set up at wall mart is way cheap ,1/2 inch hose from timer then 1/4 inch hose from the timer hose to the plants .You can even add you newts to the water in the drum cheak ph after you mix it up you may have to change ph.you can do that with ph +up and -down.im going organic.you may not have to go back for 30 days.
