I'm sorry old bean, I thought I was being light hearted, not smart arsed. I may be new on the forum, but have been lurking long enough to know that it's easy to be taken the wrong way. I think I'm a nice guy too. I'd never come across Choice before, so thanks for the heads up. I've had a look at their site and they seem to carry a lot of strains that Herbies don't. So far I've only used Herbies and Pickandmixseeds.co.uk.

You're right. I don't know the scene man! I'm not familiar with most of the seedbanks or their products or of the history of the strains or of famous characters or of political intrigues.
I'm 46 and have smoked dope nearly every day since I was 16. The only days I haven't smoked in that time were whenever there was a complete drought, which thankfully is pretty rare around here.
I've smoked a lot of very good hash and weed over the years and have enjoyed several trips to Amsterdam. Unfortunately in my part of the UK, good hash is a rarity these days. You can get some fair weed if you hunt around, but it aint cheap.
I've grown a couple of plants some years ago, but have only been trying in earnest for the last year. Started out with CFLs (which I gradually increased) and have recently purchased a 600W dimmable HPS which I now sort of regret, wishing I'd gone for a good LED board instead. But hey ho, I'll get one or two of them as funds allow. In that time I've had a couple of so-so harvests of nice smoke and a couple of crops ruined by gnats and root rot. I realise I've got a long way to go, but I feel I'm making slow progress and I'm not too worried as I'm generally so brilliant and amazing that I will undoubtedly be canonised by the Dope Pope as the patron of saint of weed farmers by Christmas! Haha, in truth I'll be over the moon the first time I manage to yield a dry oz.

id stick with the 600 over the led but thats just me. and if ya need any info or anything just let me know ive been around a long time and love it everyday. choice and attitude are the same but with all that has happened id stick with choice, midweek song, herbies and pick and mix. also the best bank ive found is firestax. and right now they have 50% off cabin fever gear. its worth checkin out and honestly anything on stax is better than any tga beans. not sayin tga doesnt have some good stuff but the real shit is all at stax for sure

I'm growing in a wardrobe without extraction so heat is my biggest challenge. I was running over 90 for a few days until I ripped the space blanket down. Bare wood helped absorb some of the excess heat. There's no way I could actually run it at 600W in this set up, but I wanted to get something so that I didn't have to buy a new light when I eventually get a decent grow tent. My main problem is summer heat. I am in a south facing room which happens to be the hottest room in the house. Not my house, so I can't move my op anywhere else. On hot days, I can just about to manage to keep my grow zone in the low 80s. I have discovered that on these cooler autumn days I can stay in the low 80s at 400W. Not ideal temps. My thinking is that 1 or 2 300w LED boards would give me an equivalent amount of light for lower temperatures, which should encourage faster growth? Is there any point in having HID if the heat produced actually hinders the plants' growth?

Lower temperatures, hinging on cold, encourage tighter bud. Heat control is one of my major focuses in planning. From choice of seed strain to ventilation etc. LED, good stuff, is expensive. Cheaply constructed LED panels are a bummer when they start to go because then they aren't cheap anymore. Always buy quality. The worst reason ever to buy anything? "It was on sale". Take that from an old man. Good quality products don't have to go on sale all the time.

I found a used room air conditioner. It won't take much to fabricate a "funnel" from sheet metal using tin snips to run this puppy through some Cooltubes. It's only 5200 BTU and I'm already looking at another used one at 12,500 BTU. The 5200 will cost $43 to run at 8 hours a day for 3 months according to my electric company so I figure about the same for a 2 month flowering. I'll bet that will cool them by exhausting it right back into the grill so the AC can recirc it. I'm setting up a legal grow for a friend here in NM who is on NM MMJ. So odor is no issue while extreme heat is.

i understand your issue. have you thought about a cooled tube for your 600. setting that up is cheaper than 2 quality leds and will give you a better end. just a thought. just want you to do well and enjoy it and have the best you can. as i said ill help ya in any way i can.

Welcome to riu! Chirim has good advice on a tube. I've used my small closet for a few grows with my 600 in a cool tube. the tube saved my plants from a lot of stress. If you're handy, I made my first one with the tube from a hurricane lamp and it worked very well....

I've never worried about heat. I just let the buds fluff up. Is there any quality difference, or just is it purely cosmetic?
