hey guys hope everyone is getting ready for there outdoor grows i know i am. I just have a couple of questions that i am kinda unsure about and just need some others advice or opinion's. so far i have 14 white widow clones in red solo cups under my 150 watt hps we took them from our mother plant back in feb, so far they are doing great becoming root bound im sure. I am planning on putting them outside may 3 but i am unsure about what size smart pots to put them in. I am thinking 30 gallon im pretty sure i can grow decent size plants with that right? the soil mix is pure FFOF mixed with some perlite. any advice or tips are great to have.

leaving the plants in such small containers for this long may have stunted them. you may want to put them in something larger to see if they'll respond or not...

Just make sure that when you transplant you beat those roots up real nice like. I generally chop the bottom of the ball into quarters and then spread them apart by hand.

thanks for the response guys but if i break up the roots wont that hurt the plant?
Treat it like the plant itself like when you touch the plant sometimes you dont press so hard on the stem that it snaps right? Same with roots play around with it pretend they are boobies and gently squeeze them LMAO.. no but I'm serious

og is correct. breaking some roots is no problem. when i transplant, i always make several slices vertically into the roots/medium. think of people who keep mother plants. they cut massive amounts of roots from the root-ball, then re-plant. there may be some wilting/shock, but they bounce back.

be careful they don't go into flower coming of longer light hours then the days are. turn your timer down or supplement some light outside. May 3rd is kinda short still for clones coming off light. 30 gals is a good start.
MoJo to your grow !

Nothings worse than watching a plant stunt out because the rootball wasn't broken up when transplanted. I had one of my roumlans do it and it cost me 2 pounds I'm sure.

yeah the clones where on 18/6 but since the light outside is different i turned the timer back to 17/7 this week and then im going to turn it back to 16/8 the next week and so on until its 15/9 because right around may 3 i believe its 15/9. very good tip about the root ball im glad i know it now thanks for all the help guys!

16/8 is good. And yes I would wait a couple weeks also. I know a lot of people that use a razor blade to make 4 or 5 verticle cuts through the root mass about 1/2" deep.
