Looking for MMMA lawyer in Ann Arbor area. One who deals with the business side of MI MJ law.

I have done some research on my own and have already met with one lawyer but am looking to hear opinions based on personal experiences.

The lawyer I did consult with seemed perfectly happy about the new law which recently passed and I got the impression that they were stoked about the moves Big Agra and Big Pharma are making to takeover many of the larger licenses which will come available next year. The lawyer is looking to make a fortune off of those clients and I didn't feel they were really all that much interested in small-time me.

Anyone know of a savvy MMJ lawyer who's down with the people and supports the cottage industry side of this business?

not next year, applications begin early '18. by the time those approved app's get built out, they face the likelihood of legal recreational competetion. that then would likely be a more forgiving environment for the small fry, smaller op's, less regulation?

If recreational happens. Unfortunately, they did a pretty decent job of killing it as a ballot proposal this year (foremost among the reasons it failed).

I wish I could share your optimism for recreational. It would be the best for all concerned.

A minor difference, but it'll be late December 2017, when they are 'scheduled' to begin accepting applications for licenses.

90 days before the law takes effect after it was signed by Snyder on Sep. 21 2016; so Dec. 20, 2016. Then an additional 360 days before one can apply for a license (if the legislature can keep to their projected schedule for amendments, framework and "fine tuning" of the law they just passed) it'll be exactly , Friday, December 15, 2017 before anyone can apply for one of the 5 tiers of licenses they've enacted.

That is what was so frustrating about the visit with the lawyer I did see. The big players are already building out their infrastructure, as are any mid-sized players privileged enough to have inside knowledge of what was coming down the pike.

They've got the money behind them to pay up front for build outs as potential money makers and their institutional structure of lawyers and businessmen to make a really good case, initially, to localities for zoning and later to the state licensing board (in whichever form that will take, TBD) that they are very, very good prospects to receive a state sanctioned license and be in full compliance with whatever the 'impartial and non-affiliated' new oversight committees will determine to be "the best" structure and ways to enforce the new laws.

Unless you or I or any other caregiver or self-grower has an office full of business types, secretaries, lawyers, accounts payable/ receivable, compliance officers (RFID and seed to source...), we're going to be SOL when it comes to who exactly are the "right type of people" who will be issued a license.

Maybe I'm being overly negative, but that is the vibe I got after paying $$$ to talk with someone in the know.

I do hope I'm wrong though.

A minor fucking difference? you type two paragraphs to correct my number for being off by a couple of weeks when your grand estimate was off by a YEAR? Asshole know-it-all, won't be corrected dick-head. what are you asking questions for?

I don't know who's the bigger moron, your lawyer for spouting that horses hit, or you for believing it… There is not a single grounded businessman who would invest the amount of money necessary for a professional grow-op without having location, zoning and market defined and delivered. They may have financing, plans and "approval", but they will not move without license. good luck with that naiveté ...
