Long Time Lurker

I've been lurking for a while, and just completed my third BHO attempt. I can gladly say that each time I kept accurate notes, referenced my mistakes, and read over the forums to find other people that had the same problems as me and their remedy. For example, on my first attempt I grinded my marijuana too fine so when I pulled the Butane out of my glass tube too quickly, it shot out and into my pyrex.... On my second attempt, I overcompensated and didn't pack the tube tight enough. Also, I let the temperature get above 160 for a couple minutes making the product turn out dark brown (I know this from searching the forums). I also found that moisture is your enemy and you have to be careful when you pour the water during the hot water purge.... Anyways, I'll share more about my learning experience if anyone feels like chatting with me, but I want to make a point to say to fellow lurkers: THE PEOPLE ON HERE MOSTLY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT, AND IF YOU SEARCH THE FORUM ITS VERY EASY TO TROUBLESHOOT YOUR MISTAKES. I was able to more than double my yield from my first to third attempt, which isn't saying much for my first attempt, but the fact is that I was able to improve because of the information available on these forums. I'm also excited to attempt a QWISO sometime next week.

Anyways, I'm currently purging on a griddle and took a pic, thought I'd share. By all means offer your input, but go easy on me because I'm proud of my accomplishment.

welcome to the site
looks under purged imo
but if you describe your process further im sure we can help you out

when you say you are purging on a griddle I assume you are just heat purging? or under vacuum?

I don't have a vacuum yet, what you see there was born like 45 minutes ago. I'll invest in a vacuum once I get the basics down. Anyways, my plan was to just keep it on a griddle at like 120 degrees for 12-24 hours. Does that makes sense?

not exactly if you are trying to learn the basics, many experienced members of RIU use open tubes still
a closed loop system is recommended for the pros or for people with plenty of money and material to blow

it will still have residual butane trapped inside
have you heard of a process called winterizing?
I recommend you winterize your bho if you plan on only using a heat purge
this will remove residual butane, and others undesireables in your final product

if not I guess the best advice I can give on a heat purge is to keep your oil as thin as possible(paper thin)
and do not go above 130
