hi steff, If you worried then just increase slowly..say +2 hrs every 2-3 days untill you reach the 18/6. They should be fine.

Yes , you can slow crawl your light schedule up to 18/6 , but when grow Autos I use 24/0 for the best yield. I know there will be some negative responses to this but it is what happens. Autos are not that dependent on dark period , due to their short life. I tried a 12/12 with regular grow and a separate auto with my veggy plants but noticed that the 18/6 was a better choice.

If you are using CFL setup go 24/0 ! It has given the plants maximum light energy to grow faster and thrive. If your light setup can't do 24 then go 18/6.

My " 00 seeds " Chocolate Skunk is 1 week old and is on 24/0. :weed:

With Autos more light more bud , that is why modern autos strains get so big ( not Lowryder )
Some strains can get pretty big ( up to 3 foot or so )
Decreasing the light will ripen the plant faster , meaning it finishes sooner but lowers in the final yield. Good luck

There is also a unique 12/1 light schedule that some growers swear by ( for veg stage only ) . It is a very different approach to the norm everybody uses.

12 hours on , 5 1/2 hours off , 1 hour on , 5 1/2 off ( every 24 hours )
This is an experiment I tried on a regular grow with 2 plants ( not auto ) this was designed for the veg period only . It will require a modified timer setup. Timers that have multiple setting tabs will work. ( the kind that you push up or down ). This will allow setting anytime during the day you want. It DOES drop your power bill !

For Flowering : 11/13 ( which I am using currently ) as the flowering continues into later stages you keep changing ( around week 4/5 flower ) dark period by an hour longer each week. This simulates a more natural progression of what nature does as the nights get longer. Continue up to harvest. ( up to 15 hour dark at end ).

Try it ,

( this will probably get some flaming posts , but try it yourself and run the course )
Don't hate LOL :bigjoint:
