Not sure if I put this one out there.

Need extra storage for pots and pans? I have open shelving in my pantry and my pot and pans are stored in there along with at least 4 or 5 cookie sheets, cake pans, etc. Obviously, I've run out of storage room.

Here's the fix: I went out to the Big Lots store and bought a bunch of spring loaded curtain rods. I put them between my pantry shelves vertically, just look at them as an odd vertical divider. Now my cookie sheets rest on their sides, along with frying pans, cakes and pie pans, too.

I can't tell you the space I saved. One of the best ideas for a small kitchen like mine.

Not sure if 1-2-3 cake is here either.

Mix together in a large plastic baggie 1 box of any brand of Angel food cake mix with a box of any cake mix that you like.

In a mug:

3 tbsp of mixed together cake mix

2 tbsp water

1 minute in the microwave.

Remove from mug and dress it up with all the fixings.

If you add some herb put it in before and mix it in before adding the water.

i don't know if this counts as a lifehack but it seems a ridiculous amount of people don't know it.

put the fucking chinese takeout container into the microwave and stfu. it will not explode, spark, or conjure satan because of the metal handle. stop dirtying dishes to heat up chinese food.

For the 1st time ever the paper gypsies got me. "How are you going to survive the end?" was stuck in my door. They got some balls because my property is a bit secluded and looks like a place that once you enter you might not leave.

This one is sooo easy. Let me set this up. I make my own laundry detergent. I even make my own washing soda (how to down below).

Anyway, the other night I ran out off dish soap for the machine. I looked for something to use around the house since I most certainly didn't want to go to the store. I fumbled around in the cabinets and found the washing soda that I had made and now I'm thinking will this work? The answer is definitely YES and it's cheap, too. I use probably 2 to 3 tablespoons for a full load of dirty dishes and everything came out sparkling.

Maybe CN will tell us the negatives of using washing soda in the dishwasher. I understand that if you want to reduce etching on your glass that you need to use water under a 140 degree using the stuff you buy from the store. So, CN, is it ok to use on your glasses and dishwash without ruining them?

Good news! There is a way to make your own washing soda out of regular baking soda (sodium bicarbonate).

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: 1-2 hours

[h=3]Here's How:[/h]
  1. Preheat your oven to approximately 390° - 400° Fahrenheit. (200° C)
  2. Pour a box (or a few cups) of baking soda (not baking powder) onto a baking sheet, and put it in the oven.
  3. Bake the baking soda from 30-60 minutes. I've seen reports of people baking it as little as 30 minutes - and people baking it as long as 2 hours. It doesn't appear that over-baking it is a problem...so I'd recommend 45-60 minutes just to assure that the chemical reaction is completely complete.
  4. After pulling the baking sheet out of the oven and letting it cool, store the washing soda in aclearly labeled airtight container. The washing soda can "convert" back into baking soda if it's exposed to air.
  5. Use your washing soda in your homemade laundry soap!
[h=3]What You Need[/h]
  • Baking soda
  • Baking sheet
  • Airtight storage container

Here's a lifehack for you: pool pH-down is pure washing soda. No need to take the more expensive baking soda and then add the expense of an oven. The great news is if you have a grow ... balikg the baking soda will bump your indoor pCO2. Truly "baking" soda!

Afaik it'll be good in the dishwasher. cn

I saw the laundry soap recipe and must warn about one thing. If your water is hard, it won't work well. The old-timey Calgon was loaded with phosphates, but they were in there to make hard water work with soaps. They've replaced it with a greener, less-effective material. cn

So the first LifeHack is the shower curtain hook that rolls. They do come with do-dads on them, this is just so you can see the rollers. They use these types in hospitals.

You'll think about this when you are fighting that shower curtain tomorrow.

Edit: cost about $10
Next time you lose your phone charger go to a hotel. Tell them that you think you left your charge in one of the rooms a little while ago. They will bring out a huge box of charges, it is one of the most left behind items, and pick threw them and get a free charger.

These things are usually lame and inapplicable but I bought these shower curtain holders with these stars on and a weird curve in them, then probably put them on in a rush. Lets just say 3/4 are missing from the eyelets :p

And I had to use the charger thing. Was all alone in America with only superior but useless British chargers, so that did save my bacon. Meant I could turn my phone on and let em charge me a mil a minute.
