License or Registration to grow in Minnesota?

Greetings fellow Minnesotans!

just wondering if anyone knows if a fee/registration/license or some such is going to be required to grow here?

There will be licensing for commercial operations but home cultivators can possess 2 pounds of cannabis in their homes. Adults may grow 8 plants, 4 of which can be mature. You can legally gift 2 ounces to another person.

The legislation allows people age 21 and older to possess or transport up to 2 ounces of cannabis flower, 8 grams of concentrate and 800 milligrams of edible product (including lower-potency hemp-derived product). An adult may also possess up to two pounds of cannabis flower in a private residence.
Beginning Aug. 1, 2023, people age 21 and older can grow up to eight cannabis plants, with no more than four being mature. A cultivation license will be required to grow more plants. The plants must be grown in an enclosed, locked space that is not open to public view. People 21 and older can possess up to 2 pounds of cannabis flower in their home.

If you are refering to doing a home grow - as will be allowed per MN - it's just the cost of gear, genetics and power - blood, sweat and tears are free! lol!

I went to the web page for that office. It's quite skeletal, just t3he basic facts. I assume they are still staffing up and they need to create the regulatory framework outlined in the bill and fast. The law caĺls for beginning licensed sale in 1st quarter of 2025.

Walz' ink is not dry yet! Sales, or ??? like it, could possibly take place sooner ??? - if things are safe, organized, set up, etc., Our expectations for OUR government, in Minnesota, are high, we do shit right (ok... flexing... sorry... but, crushing it lately, ya know?)

Not going to speculate but in DC and u til recently, New York, sticker shops were flourishing, where you could buy an item (sticker) and get a 'free gift' of pot. It seems like that could happen until they get their act together but New York cracked down on it as they open the regulated market. I would expect the same here.

It all depend on your intended purpose. If for personal use there is no license requirement. If you as asking about the business side of the law, there are numerous forms of licenses available. From microbusines which is cheap ($250 i believe)to apply for to full scale cultivator which is like 20k application fee. If you have ever been disproportionately affected by cannabis laws here in mn you have a 20% higher chance of being awarded a license. Also the office of cannabis managment website is currently bare bones but is expected to be updated with much more info come July 1, 2023.

Still bare bones but a little more detail about various licenses and their associated fees but not much about what they will permit or how compliance will be enforced. They are still recruiting a director for the Office of Cannabis Management. Maybe August 1 we will learn more.

The office of cannabis managment appears to be slacking. They claimed the site would be updated 7/01/23, but unfortunately that hasn't happened. However, if you lookup the bill, it has far more information about what's required to apply. They require a business plan that covers everything from a security plan to water usage, pesticide plan, waste managment, predicted future growth of the business, yada, yada. There will be a background check for the applicant and everyone on their team. It's a very in depth process and anyone who has been disproportionately affected by prohibition (e.g. those who have been convicted of a cannabis offense, low income earners, those who live in areas of poverty, and black people) will have a 20% higher change of being granted a license.

I'll wait for the actual regs. I'm mostly interested in donating excess production and the terms for basic home cultivation cover that pretty well. I can grow quite a bit in a year and easily give away most of it while remaining compliant with plant limits and inventory.

by the way, regarding sales…. Leech Lake reservation dispensary is selling flower, I believe. When I went to the website just prior to August 1, it looked like the dispensary is pretty minimalistic… I would imagine things are changing quickly.
