Let's make some canna-butter!

I've been reading a ton of recipes on making canna butter and have successfully made 2 batches in the past but I feel my results were not consistent so I thought I'd start up a thread to discuss tried and proven recipes of the pros here in michigan.

I'll start with my personal experience and methods of the past:

First batch I did in the crock pot on low for 12 hours with 1/2 oz grinded mid grade buds to 1LB butter. Stirred throughout the process and strained through cheese cloth after 12 hours and a short cool down period. Cooked up a batch of 9 oversized cookies and they were strong enough to knock a rhino on it's ass.

The next batch I again used the same quantity and quality of buds but tried a high heat for 4 hours then to a low heat for another 8 and the results were terrible. I think the high temp is too high and I burned off all the goodies through the evaporation process so obviously I breached the max temp.

The next batch I'll be brewing up from some quality sugar leaf and this time around I intend to make no mistakes :)

The best recipe I just recently found was on youtube @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUDyVzV_n-Q&feature=related and it suggested a no boil super low simmer with an odd twist....they start with just water and grinded bud and then add the butter a few hours later. weird right? or maybe not....never seen it done thatta way. I like the press they use at the end of the process to extract all the remaining butter that's still trapped in the plant matter.

What do you guys think? Suggestions, recipes, etc..

Do you know of the cinnomon oil they make the hot tooth picks with? There is an oil of the same caliber that is made chocolate. You will find it with the cinnomom oil in the grocery store. Add the chocolate oil to the butter to help with taste. I believe you could harness the taste of any of the oils in that grocery store isle.. something to think about when you get to the taste aspect.

I have also had better results with the very slow simmer. I am no expert on this though jonny, as you know.
 
take a mason jar filled with any amount of cannabis you want.

add the amount of unsalted butter you want.

put on the lid and throw it in a pot of boiling water for a few hours.

strain the butter/cannabis mess with some cheese cloth or a ricer or any kind of press.

VIOLA cannabutter!!

and you can cook with the leftover cannabis/butter mess after you strained most of the butter out.

Hell I never even thought of altering the taste....you just opened a whole new door of ideas for this project.

Good stuff there joc. I've heard of the double boiler method quite a bit but never actually tried it before. Only question I have on that is how much pressure builds up in that mason jar with all the boiling?.....I guess I have some concerns about the thing going kaboom on me but with no water in the mixture I suppose there's not much evaporation going on inside that jar so no pressure buildup?

marijuana vaporizes @ 350 deg. lg crockpot full of trim sm bud vaped weed anything and all of it. i put in butter melt it down then put in the weed. once it comes up to boil put it on simmer, stir occasionally 1/2 hr let cook for 4 hrs, i let it cool a bit then strain it. if ya dont us all of it measure it out and put it in a baggie. freeze it and it will slide out bag nice when ready. if ya make bho u can use the weed out of that once the butane has evaporated. i used that the last time i make some. i had enough weed and butter to fill pot 3/4 of the way full. it was soooooooo daaaaark. i went to the dispensary in houghton lake and they were getting 25 bucks for a small jar and it was the color of light very light green pea soup. like ya just run water over peas lol. sorry to ramble. my wife bakes the stuff off @325 for extra minutes. hope you can find some helpful tips here jonny

This work well? How many hours you let it stew? Thought it wasn't supposed to be boiling as it ruptures the heads cause its too hot.
 
i have never ruptured the head or anything ever go BOOOM. I boilk them for a few hours depending on what i am doing that day, more than 2 less than 6, somewhere in between
 
i get the dry packaged cookie dough from the stores that you add one egg and a stick of butter and i make that. its just for me and my group in the kartel, but i imagine you can make just about anything.
i also ad about 1.8 of trim plus the canna butter and it makes going for a walk in the morning much more enjoyable.
it sets in around 45 minutes and can last for 4-6 hours. i got lost 10 minutes from my house once and had to "phone a friend" to get back home :-)

so you add the trim and the butter to the cookie mix? How fine do you grind the trim up?
