Legalisation in the UK

Hey guys,
had a quick scroll through the forum but couldn't see any discussion on the UK marijuana policies! No other british tokers here?

Anyway, the UK has recently reclassified cannabis to a class B drug, up from class C, which puts it in the same class as Amphetamines for christ sake! Instead of a warning, possession (and this is small quantity, hypothetically, any quantity) can now earn you an unlimited fine, 4 years in prison or both!! Dealing it can now get you stuck inside for 14 years!
This is outrageous, the government acted against the advice of all it's most senior scientists to pass this one, under the pathetic excuse of: weed is too strong nowadays, and big drug farms are bringing organised crime into Britain. Now, it's true that weed IS stronger now, average THC has gone up by a decent amount (7% in 1995, 14% in 2005), there is no evidence that this has had any meaningful effect on the health of us UK stoners. What's more, the mindless chain of big bustings of dumb ass criminals who were practically parading their weed down the street lead to mass shortages whereby those criminals still WITH weed were filling it full of sand, glass and ball bearings to increase the weight in an already cornered market. Now that DOES do some damage to your health.

But the government has shown its hand (it's hand being gutless, fundamentalist fuck-tards, excuse the french) and everyone's kicking up a big fuss but it'll do no good! There's no chance of legalisation in the short-, mid-, or probably long-term, but there word everyone wants to hear is: decriminalisation. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no such thing as decriminalistation. It's just a long fancy word that describes the Dutch situation. On a side note, how many of you in the US have been to Amsterdam? Good god, it's almost worth living in the UK cos you're never more than a 2 hour flight from legal, delicious and the highest grade bud in the world!

Anyway, what we need to push for in the UK is a position where random people who happen to be having a smoke aren't getting thrown into an already crowded judicial system, but at the same time, organised criminals and gangs are discouraged from setting up large scale, socially-detrimental farms. In a word: a cottage system. If everyone here in the UK just grew one or two plants for personal use and for a close group of friends we would solve a million problems all at once. The government here will NEVER legalise weed, I'm willing to wager a lot of bud on that, but they'll never need to, if us stoners act like adults instead of whining about shortages and unfair rules! Heat detecting, Infra-red helicopter-mounted cameras may be brilliant at detecting farms (a horrendous waste of tax-payers money, but good at finding farms) but they can't find a closet with two plants in someone's room! And at the same time, if a group of people-smuggling, weed-growing gangsters set up somewhere, the police have every right under the Misuse of Drugs Act to lock the scumbags up and throw away the key.

In short, the UK needs to take a leaf out of the US's growing book (pun intended), if everyone made it their duty to ensure their own supply and those of close friends then we'd never have to waste our money on dickless criminals looking to make a quick profit, we'd never get arrested and thrown in jail for a victimless crime and we'd never have a shortage of high-grade smoke EVER again.
Thanks.

Looks like you guys are headed in the wrong direction. You and your buds better start writing some emails. Make it happen. Good luck.
