LED ?

So I have a 5x5 gorilla grow tent for bloom in which I'm running 1000w hps with dominator xxxl a/c hood. My friend who was using my leds just gave them back and I was thinking of utilizing them. I have 4 led units. 2 area-51 rw150, one a-51 rw75, and one 130w ufo led. I was thinking of hanging them around my hps hood on all 4 sides. So one in front and back of the hood, and one on each side of the hood. I figured this would give my tent optimum coverage and mix in some different spectrums. Do you led guys or girls think this is a good idea or is it a bit overkill??

Sure would light it up well lol. You won't be over doing it honestly. If you figure alot of people run 1000 watts in a 4x4 a 5x5 is 56% more space so no not overkill really.

Thanks for the reply. The only thing is I believe I have to hang the leds a little further away from the plants than the hps so as not to get light beaching leds can sometimes cause, though I never have gotten light bleaching from my leds.

Ya I ran my 1000w with the big hood in the 4x4 tent and it was a bit overkill I thought. That's why I got the 5x5. Love the gorilla tent, such better quality than the secret jardins. Though my 4x4 jardin is still standing strong!

When I ran my blurple panels in an HPS room, I didn't see shit for difference. At all. I'd say save the watts.

If you really want to use LED, then consider the DIY builds these guys are doing with COB chips... in fact, I'm thinking of a configuration that would pull just 800W total and would most likely deliver more PAR than everything you mentioned above put together.

he's only got one blurple ufo...the rest are a51's....nothing wrong with them, even if they are a little older.....

I'm not familiar with them, although I've read comments people have posted about them. Didn't he mention they sucked for bloom?

Anyway, I made my decision when I saw new COB LED chips pulling over 50% efficiency and growing great bud on RIU DIY threads.

yeah,i know what you mean...ive been using CX_s since July of last year...even then it seemed like everyone was using them, haha. but he's already got the lamps and they do work well....might as well use em, or sell them on ebay. I've seen a number of good grows with them.

Those area 51 will help fill in the spectrum of that hps. It really is strain dependant as well. If sativa dominant the more light the better if indica id say you won't see as much gain from the added light. Pay attention to the leaves. You'll know what's up.

Not sure about that. They have a bloom mode which pulls 155watts. They use cree chips. I don't know much about leds but were told these were good leds in my research. I bloomed with them in a 4x4 tent. I got a decent product but wasn't to impressed than again I'm used to 1000w hps so it hard to compare

LOL- it's VERY easy to compare, and you just did! You weren't impressed with them COMPARED to your thouie, right?

I plan to compare the performance of 33.3W/ft² of COB LED to 33.3W/ft² of '860W' CDM I'm running now. We'll see how they fare, classic head to head style.

@ttystikk , What sort of timeline are you looking at to set up your COBs? I like your vertical style and really want to see how you do with the COB grow. I am a grow nerd who is always excited to see how others do their thing.

Cheers,
Will

Should be perfect. Exactly what you are wanting from it, a bit more light, plus some good spectral targeting. Great units.

Gorilla tents are very solid. I like the height options.

Parts have been ordered and are on their way, other components have been assembled- it's beginning to look like it will be ready the first half of next month. The heat pump install is still going on, as well. I'm hoping to have that done first, but it seems to have a mind of its own!

I'd love to have it running over plants by the fifteenth of December but I'll be happy if I pull it off by the New Year.
