My first post here,so here goes... I will be getting some cxb3590's soon. 4@3500k(36v) and 4@3000k(36v).What will be the best BIN's to buy for those 2 spectrums? I want 2 drivers and have been adviced by RapedLED to get 2 Mean Well HLG-240H-C1400B. Will this be a good driver for running 4 cobs or do you recommend something else? I am in the UK and have only been looking at RapidLED and Cutter Electronics. On cutter there is a back order and I dont really want to wait. I also contacted Jerry from KingBrite Electronics Co., Ltd today ,but I am still waiting on him to come back to me. Are they any good?Any other places I can look for the cobs and heatsinks(best BIN please). Bit of a noob here in regards with the cobs as I only ever used hps. I got 10 UGORG Disco Biscuits beans waiting. Looking forward to any advice! ta

Alright fella, Welcome to RIU.
For us in the UK dealing with Jerry is easy, cheap and a safe bet for CXBs, there are other chips that are more cost effective and available in Europe. Citizen for example, which is what I run.
The binning as far as I know for 3500k if your wanting 80cri is CD bin. Same with the 3000k.

The driver is fine but I think you can run the 1750mA too if you wanted to squeeze a bit more power out of them.

If you end up going with Jerry KB then ask them to reduce the value on the invoice to save some import tax.

I bought my heat sinks and drivers from kingbrite, I bought My Citizen clu058s from HLG in the USA. (and my Quantum Boards)
Heat sink wise you wont find anything in the UK as cheap as Kingbrite even with adding in the delivery and tax they are way cheaper than anything similar here.

You never I know somebody that has some Led drivers right now that has name brand drivers but I know if I give his name out and we got to hold be sold out lol. Go to Ebay type in the picture information title head and you'll find this driver with the chip just throw the chip away and use your chip will be running a 30 watt with each driver dude you're paying 3 bucks a driver going to take a few days to get it but you'll have it within 15 days you want some drivers that are in the US they're going to run you almost 10 bucks apiece let me know vaper410 signing out

you can also get them for $50 new in any number of places

it sure seems to be a flood of posts lately with people in a race to the bottom to find the cheapest cheapest of everything.

just remember if all leds and drivers were created equal wed all be using mars and roleadro.

considering you can buy a >160 lm/W cob chip for <$0.20/W and a driver with 7 year warranty for <$0.25/W you guys really wount have liked it a year or two ago when it was considerably more expensive.

as always you get what you pay for. im all for trying out new stuff but if peopel want to buy gear with no specs and act like its equivalent to the better LEDs, just because it can grow some plants are missing the mark. CFLs grow plants as well.

if people want to actually prove any of these as viable options they at least need to demonstrate that they can quantify their efficiency relative to known solutions

I figure I'll post in this thread before making yet another "what are your thoughts" post. So here goes...

Not exactly a newbie, have a few grows under my belt (nice results except for a purple haze...but wth was I thinking trying a haze on my first ever grow lol) The old setup was CFLs for starting and veg. 600w HPS for flower in a 4x4 tent. Always, ALWAYS had heat issues even with some great ventilation, due to it being in the attic. Summertime sucks, wintertime it's great. So, I didn't grow for a year and am back to it now. But I need your input and help as I want to get away from the HPS and immediately thought about an LED setup. Of course, before I started researching the LEDS, I figured the "blurple" was the best and was what I was going to get. However, when i started reading the posts in here about LEDs, Quantum Boards, and COBs, I changed my mind lol

There is just sooooo much information on all of them, some of which makes no sense to me, that it is making my head spin. So, this is where I need your help and input...

The tent is 4x4x70" high. It is for flower only (separate area for veg). I plan on having 4 in flower for the first grow cycle. No SOG, SCROG, or LST. Some are topped, some are not (I plan to flower the topped together, then the un-topped together) I'm not sure that it matters what strains I have, but they are Blue Dream, Chocolope, Original Sour Diesel, Arjans Strawberry Haze, AKS (I've seriously forgot what it stands for...I know it's a Kush LOL), and Shaw.

What I need help with is lighting. From what I've read, COB and Quantum Board are what I'm looking for. Finances say I can spend up to $500. I've read the reviews on the expensive guys, and I just can't spend $1500 on a light. At least not yet. I'm not 100% sold on a DIY COB, but I watched the QB video on how to assemble and I'm ok with that. But the QB kits are out of stock. UGH! So, if I wait for the QBs, what do you suggest I buy for the size tent I have? would (1) 135w be enough or do I need 2 or more? Will I need any additional lighting with the QBs (sides, exra red, etc). What is the best bang for your buck for COB? I'm not looking for cheapest...just staying within budget but getting enough light for the tent. What wattage COB would I need?

I'm still reading and researching, so any info you can give, I will appreciate!
Thanks!

4X4 to actually cover it 400w cobs.
You could get away with as little as 200w for 4 plants. Just dont expect great yields.
Tasty leds. Amare. Go green.
Those are my suggestions for cobs (amare cob and blurple combo)
Timber if you are handy and can throw a rail together.
Platinum for blurple but thats a step back imo

I think blurple are good too tho. Platinums are affordable. I dont use mine anymore but will come wintertime.

I know nothing of qb.

Thanks a bunch for the info! When you say 400W, are we talking actual draw of 400W, so I need what is advertised as 800W, or 400W with an actual 200W draw?

I've done all the grows in this area. My first grow I had MAD heat issues, but I took care of the ventilation, and the grows after that were all good. I made sure it is well ventilated with cool enough air being drawn in to keep heat around 80-85 F with a 600W HPS running at 75%, in the summer!
