eh....theplates are 10% of the equipment of which I WASN"T referring to, but anyway the "plates" in a lab are tossed by the thousands, daily, so they aren't that expensive.

I used to watch and catch the methheads, going through our lab waste once week, interesting to say the least.

....I stand by my statements. Im sorry I reflected my opinion on a PUBLIC forum @AllDayToker
Oh and I'm pretty sure I never talked about your history, or said anything personal about any opinions you had.

Reread brotha'. :)

So would you recommend this to just a small time home grower that is curious of a somewhat decent estimation of potency?

I mean is it accurate within a certain percentage like +/-3%

Sorry getting ready to go to the World Cup this week...

Anyway, I guess it depends on what your looking for.

As for the variation, I think this has a lot to do with the degradation effect. He states its effected by exposure to light and time.
Then he asks you to expose the plate to intense light by scanning it, so I think this is your loss.
I think its also best to use a digital camera no flash

I plan on using the plates to get an estimate of what's being carried over from one generation to the next
Yes its great to have an approximation on potency but I wouldn't say that's 100% accurate
Myself for THC potency I was looking at 5 samples all from the same plant not bud and compare for average
Keeping in mind to quickly get the picture of the dye exposure before it begins to fade.
So If I run 4 or 5 on a plate and they all have about the same size THC dot to measure then I have a good idea on what the THC% will range in
This is also a variable of grow nutrients & genetics I would hope that I am seeing more of a genetic variation since I don't follow a feeding regime
But only time will tell from the people who have chosen to test the plant and share the results

I also would like to keep a collection of the fingerprints
For example the one I called a Pink Pu$$y Hash Plant from the last grow showed similar traits to a Skunk Hashish Plant & Hashish Plant fingerprints

This picture is of my 2 hash plant variants with the one on the right showing a higher CBG

This is a test from the same seed stock but more of the Pink Pu$$y Indicia / Sativa cross I have been working with

Again with strong THC THCV CBG & CBC variations.

I also learned from using these test kits that I prefer a strong CBG sedative effect.

I would say for the home tester that does not want to risk sending a sample out
This is a pretty effective way to track and monitor variants from genetic crosses
In addition to getting an approximation of THC content

Besides all of that isn't Science just FUN in general....

Awesome! Very informative thank you!

Yeah I think I might pick up a kit and give it a go.

Like you said it should be fun either way.

The cool thing is I would say after one kit and a refill purchase you would have enough fluid and dye left over to just purchase the TLC plates
I was looking at different silica plates on the market.

I got four 200 watters, which on hindsight might be a bit too much for my 4x4 (NOT! :eyesmoke:), but one or two might be repurposed for lighting some clones or a mom in a separate tent if they're too intense. Either way I'm excited to blast my girls with a possible maximum 800W of cob power lol! :bigjoint:

thats okay..i'm using a 500watt optic light.. 125w x 4 COBS
and a 1000 watt Hps for my 5 x 5

planning on adding 8 more COBS lol

hey again all...My Optic 120 watt showed up a few days ago, so I thought id post a pic of it over my plant...so far so good, she isn't shying away from the intensity, so that's good...these plants are both Ghost Train Haze #1. I started the one under the Optic from seed, and the other is a clone of it....a little packed in there at the moment, but the older GTH is about 2-3 weeks out from finishing, at day 63 aprx...so room will be freed up soon....

now ya'll can get back to the test kit conversation! lol

Is this still for led users? Or whose bud is better?...
It's more like "who's build is better" as DIY COB lights have officially taken over this forum. So it's mostly tech talk around here now. Gone are the days of comparing bud shots to see who's LED light worked the best. Now it's all about efficiency. So if you're using anything that makes a "blurple" colored light, you will be teased, so be prepared. Why? Because the long time members here, this forum, and technology, have evolved past that. The most cutting edge new lights in the industry are coming from this forum in amazing numbers.

If you want to post some bud shots, and share your experiences, we're happy to have you.

I have the same light 300w been using for over six months gets the job done...I am seeing the new cob led seem to be the new way to grow.. But even those have that old style color light.. So now just plan old white light works?? Everything is always changing....or staying the same???

Just newer watt chips is all. And more band of spectrums besides the old 3 band and 9 band led. It gets the job done pretty well.

Theres a company that makes the Apache led series, they use a broad range of white spectrums mixed with veg spectrums or white mixed with red. Look up Apache AT600 led grow, first i ever seen them make white grow lights for cannabis, pretty pricey though.

I have been looking at the diy cob lights as well. Wonder how long it will be before we have apps that control our entire grow room via our smart phone

Wow, 2,500.00 for a led grow light?? Too much for me!!

Too much for me too! You can get your grow room fully automated, theres some equipment that you can check online through wifi, the solis tek has a digital meter that connects through wifi and tells you how much your plants grown and what not. Just an example, theres many out there
