lemons tend to breed pretty dominant in most crosses. it could
also be that it is a single essential oil flavor, which doesn't require
as much complexity for the plant to pull off.

i kept myself from tiring of the same flavors by growing a lot of
different strains at once. i was running as many as 22 different
vars at once, lol. it works for me because i have pretty severe
organizational OCD, my friends were always mislabeling shit
and having to come back to me for properly labeled clones.

limonene is a general anti-microbial, so any citrus strains will
have some degree of anti-fungal properties. another good tip is
to give the plant a foliar feed of compost tea every 2 weeks in
veg and at the end of the 2nd week of flower. it colonizes the
leaf surface with beneficial bacteria, which IME really helped keep
the PM off of the blue moonshine we ran. you don't have to drench
the leaves, just a thin layer is all it takes.

Wow 22 at once, would be a great way to try/test strains. That makes sense about limonene, JTR would have a high level of that and when I got PM on the PBK's last Spring, had a JTR sandwiched between 2 PBK's with PM, almost nothing and nothing to worry about on the JTR. Thanks for the tip, may try that foliar feed, even though I'm not bringing any air into the room other than electronic filtered furnace air, I've still seen signs of it here & there on the indica-dom strains. I've been spraying them in veg about every 2 weeks with a mix of baking soda, olive oil and soap to prevent it from starting up and it's been good, nothing on them. Once they get in the flower room RH is lower and I haven't seen it yet since a bout early this year. Have a couple of Indy-dom strains in there now so keeping a close eye out for it. In veg my RH is typically 60-65, sometimes up to 70%, sat-doms love it but so does PM, I crank the airflow if RH is high, that helps. I got it last spring not knowing my area was so bad for it, was bringing fresh air in from outside, through a modified furnace filter and still got it. Shut that off since and bring it in from the HVAC system or I'd get it again. Had to cull some bushes this summer outside, just covered in that crap.

i wasn't starting new seeds, i just kept that many elite clones. i
had more than a handful of cannabis cup winning cuts for a while.

if you want to really whip that PM's ass, you should filter the air in
your room. holmes HAP9243-UA and upgrade the filter to a "true
HEPA". people think that the air in their houses is cleaner than the
air outside, but actually our houses have a lot higher # of particles
per cubic meter of air than outdoors, especially in the winter when
the spore count in the air outside drops because molds don't reproduce
as quickly in cold weather. you can go to walmart or any other big
box store and pick up an air filter, just make sure it either comes
with a "True HEPA" or you can upgrade to that. HEPA-type is what
comes standard in most of the filters you will find there, and it only
filters out 97% of particles down to 3 micron in size, true HEPA filters
out 99.7% of particles down to .2 microns in size. here's a picture

and a picture of the filter upgrade that makes it effective at filtering
mold spores. the holmes HAP9243 uses filter size "D"

the baking soda is a really good idea, you should test the pH of the
water before spraying though. all species of fungi have a pH range
they prefer, (just like all other living organisms) and if you know the
name of the fungi you can find out what pH range inhibits its growth
during invitro culturing on a petri dish. adjust your soda water to that
range and it will be the most effective.

wiping your walls down with a 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide
and white vinegar is another good idea if you have mold problems.
both of them are antimicrobial on their own, but in solution they react
to make peroxyacetic acid (PAA). PAA is more effective than bleach
and alcohol for killing fungi and bacteria, it even destroys spores.

It says there that fungus spores are between 5-30 microns. Wouldn't the 97% filter that gets everything down to 3 microns be fine then?

it only filters 97% of those particles, so the amount of time it
will take to actually filter it out will be literally 10x as long as the
99.7%. when a typical fungal culture produces over a billion
spores an hour, we're talking a huge difference in time until the
air is sanitized.

Are you sure? I think the 97% refers to ALL particles in the air that passes through it, i.e. the 3% are the particles in the air that are smaller than three microns. It still blocks 100% of particles larger than 3 microns because they can't pass through it's 3 micron filter. The 99.7% one blocks 99.7% of particles in the air because it has a much finer filter, so it blocks more total particles but it doesn't block more of the particles that are of a size blocked by the other filter, it just blocks more sizes. Think about it with a kitchen sieve. First we create a mixture to be sifted through two sieves that includes 25% Corn Meal, 25% Lentils, 25% Black Beans, and 25% Kidney Beans. One sieve has a mesh that allows the cornmeal through, but blocks the rest, so it blocks 75% of the mixture, but not 75% of each individual component. The other has a larger mesh that allows the cornmeal and the lentils to fall through, but blocks both the larger beans, so it blocks 50% of the mixture, but again not 50% of each type, it allows 100% of the cornmeal and 100% of the lentils, and blocks 100% of the black beans and 100% of the kidney beans.

Good idea, tried one in the veg cabinet but it generated too much heat in there, may try that in the flower room, if it helps with PM I'm in. I've been spraying them but hadn't thought of using the filters to control PM in the flower room.

Blue Dream is ready, some bud shots earlier tonight @day 55 of 12/12, Day 40 under the CMH. Looks mature, cloudy, spotted the odd amber. Will chop it tomorrow at Day 56/8 weeks, some awesome buds on this one, will get some shots of the whole plant before chopping it.

es, I'm sure that the info I gave you is correct. particles might be 3 microns in one direction but only one micron another. Have you ever identified fungi under a microscope by their spores? They aren't perfectly round.

I'm giving you this info as a former owner of a mushroom farm. I have built ULPA flow hoods before and I'm very familiar with how this type of filter works.

I know the tent is a mess but I wanted to post pics! Excuse all the mess and wires, it'll be cleaned up before any plants take permanent residence...

And no the rope isn't permanent. I just wanted to hang the damn thing so I could figure out timing and spacing in the tent as opposed to in my mind.

Sweet, let there be (moving) light! Looks like an awesome setup so far, can't wait to see some plants under them. What bulbs are those the Allstart? They look quite a bit different than the T12 Elite Agro 930's that go in the Sun System fixtures.

Blue Dream got the chop tonight @day 56/8 weeks. Well ready, huge plant. Dry it this week and trim up next weekend. Had to break it into 4 sections to get it out of the trellises. Some good size buds and weight there, let's see where they come in dry :bigjoint:
