i talked to ledsupply and their 12"heatsink with active cooling will support 100w, they also said that it will support the cobs, but you have to use thermal paste.
Ha, answered my question as I was writing it. Cool, you won't regret doing those COB's. You'll need the thermal paste in any config, imo it's better than thermal glue, specially if using those COB holders. Anything goes wrong or you want to change/upgrade and the thermal paste is doable, thermal glue and you'll likely destroy anything attached to it. Good luck, will look forward to your first COB grow!

im going to buy this guys 315lec, and im going to do diy crre cob with the makersled kit.
The combo will be awesome, good plan :)
i wonder if i can use the ideal holders with the makersled kit?
Not familiar with those, get/check that through the seller before buying it, had a quick look, looks like you could adapt the holders or maybe use their mounts. Ask them what the options are for mounting 3070 COBs.
i was also thinking of driving the cob at 75%.
Not an expert in this but the standard high end is 1400ma or 50%, you're thinking like 2000/2A, they'll run hot, you'll need good cooling driving them that high.

so, i checked out advanced lighting solutions, my friend has a gavita triple star reflector, he isnt using i already gave a transformer
i think im going to diy that 315 & save some cash

It comes with only the bulb and ballast, you have to purchase the mogul socket, and to wire the ballast to the plug and the bulb to the ballast.

Its easy peasy, just thought I'd let you know what came from advanced.

Speak to Tom, nice guy.

Can't have a page without pics ;) Blue Dream is exploding under the CMH, here she is at Day 20 12/12, Day 6 under the CMH. It's massive after the stretch, second pic shows a 20" fan sitting on top of a cooler, the seam between the reflective walls just behind it sits at 48". Bud sites popping everywhere, I can see why this is a popular strain, beautiful smell too, not sure what pheno I pulled but this things's going to produce some nice bud...

And a couple more of that selectively crossed PPP I'd mentioned earlier this week. Notice the larger colas sagging with no support, some good weight there and only 3 of the smaller branches are seeded. Put it into the dark for a couple of days yesterday. That's the biggest/heaviest single bud/cola I've gotten indoor so far, from a $165 warehouse COB spot light and some DIY LED/CFL bulbs, go figure... The little gal in the 1Gal fabric pot, a monster crop clone, went straight into 12/12 from rooting/transplant into the fabric pot.

They're stacking up nicely, hung the last outdoor JTR monster crop clone (far right) last night. This thing went out in mid-July in a 3Gal fabric pot, basically had 2 weeks of veg then into the stretch, no training other than a ring to separate the branches. I'm thinking these clones from flowering mothers could be quite productive for outdoor, they don't really need training to produce well, going to try a couple next year but grow them to a good size first and get them out earlier...

Slayed it bro, respect. That was one plant in a 3x3 tent under one lec315? Also, what size of pot?

Not that you need any help, but I find tomato cages (the really big ones) work great and take minimal effort. Weave the lower branches back and forth through the cage for structural stability lol. Then if something does need tied up, you can just nail it to one of the cage hoops instead of fooling with stakes.

Thanks Bubba, this one PPP with the high cola wasn't in my main flower room or under CMH. It was in a 3Gal fabric pot, in my 2x2x4' breeding tent under 200w of a cheap Alibaba 3000k COB warehouse LED spot light, plus a DIY "panel" with 3x 13w 2700k CFL's and 3x 10w 4000k LED bulbs, 270w of mixed white spectrum, blew me away what it produced by just adding some CFL's and LED bulbs that I threw in there for heat. Wasn't expecting anything close to what it yielded or I would have had a tomato cage or trellis for support. By the end of the run I just had that large cola leaning against the wall of the tent for support, as soon as I took it out it just flopped over with weight, and that main cola wasn't pollinated so it's just some extra smoke :)

I use something similar, bamboo trellises, in the main flower room with larger plants for LST/support, they work well for supporting, opening them up, and maintaining an even canopy. I've seen some folks using the large tomato cages, looks like a good option and may try that sometime. Right now I'm liking these dollar store trellises, I put in 2 per plant, they slip into the edges of the fabric pots with 2 "feet" and they fit well into the 3Gal, 5Gal or 7Gal fabric pots. The Blue Dream above is in a 7Gal GeoPot but you can't see the trellises any more, they're buried under that massive plant, it's now about 48" from the floor.

Here's the trellises and sleeping girls in the 3x3 under 1x 315w CMH with the trellises showing, they're coming up to week 6 on Tuesday, will be posting an update tomorrow with proper pics as it's Thanksgiving here tonight and I have the whole gang invading my place today :) Cheers...

how close can you keep that light to the plants?
Not sure which light you're referring to, in the tent I had the COB light and CFL/LED bulb panel close, like 8-10" from the canopy, the main colas were almost touching the CFL/LED panel.
For the CMH, I'm currently at 20" - 22" from the canopy, have gone from 12" to 20/22", 20-22" seems good but even at that the PPP strain can't seem to handle the intensity and getting some burn/bleaching. So far the JTR strain handles it well at 20-22" and the Blue Dream under the other 315w CMH is sitting at 20-22" with no bleaching yet, plant is only 3 weeks in though, I found with the PPP the bleaching started around 3-4 weeks when it was too close.

I'm guessing 20 lbs., the 120v (what I'm running) is a little heavier in that they include a converter to allow it to run @120v. They list it at 14.3 lbs but I'm pretty sure that weight is for the 240v unit with no converter. It's heavier on one end where the ballast/converter sits, weighs almost nothing on the opposite end. Balances great though once it's hung.

You'll need about 14" for the reflector height + hanging hooks, then another 20-22" to the canopy, so about 36" to the top of the plants, probably want a 6' minimum room/tent height with these LEC's. Running bare bulb you can gain some head room.

so if i diy this setup with a gavita triple star an the ballast bulb kit from advanced, i should be able to drastically cut the weight and remove the heat of the ballast and transformer. if i do this, im sure my space would be super cool, lol i might have to add a heater, during the night cycle.

how many COBs do you think would be adequate for one or two plants?
Are you planning the COB's in addition to the LEC unit? If so you could start with 2 for supplemental that's 100w actual @1.4A or 150w @2A (you were taking about driving them higher). See how they fare and the heat, go from there. If you're running them at either one of those amperages you could cover 18x18" well I think, maybe a little more lie 18x24" but stretching footprint has diminishing returns. Consider footprint in sq. feet covered vs. number of plants, then fill that footprint with either more/smaller plants, or less larger plants. I think you want around 25w/sq. ft. minimum, I'd go 30w/sq. ft. for flowering on their own, 20-25w for supplemental if you plan to mix them with the Elite Agro bulb. I haven't run those COB's yet, just going from reading stuff in the DIY forums, perhaps someone can correct me if I'm off on this.

im doing both, , i havent started beans yet..i really want the perfect stealth set up for for four to eight sqf...im going to do some cool diy things for these to types of lighting,& post it, i have a bunch of tools.. lol and some scrap metal, this lec diy is gonna be slick, i have two plans, .

If you go 8-9 sq. feet and throw in the CMH, then 1x 50w COB running at 1400ma on each end angled to cover the canopy, you're going to have a very nice setup. If you can, allow some height to dissipate the heat and you'll be good to go with that in an 8-9 sq. ft area. Both would be too much in 4 sq. ft. imo. Start popping beans, that'll drive you to get the builds done quicker ;)
