Let's reduce some potential points of confusion; the 630 is simply a fixture that operates two 315W CMH lights. Frankly, I don't see the advantage of sticking two lamps in the same fixture because you've given up the flexibility of independent placement.

Several posters who have run them feel they are roughly equivalent to 500W of HPS each, meaning that two would do a decent job of swapping for an SE thouie... And while I haven't seen anyone try it yet, I think it's a safe guess that three would give a DE HPS fixture run at 1150-1200W a serious run for its money- and part of their advantage would be simply having three of them to spread across the canopy as opposed to just one very hot point source.

they have DE CMH don't they, if I remember.

agreed. 2 x 315 over a 630 all day long. is cheaper and more versatile. dont get me started on 'the beast'. conceptually its great if you have 12' ceilings or something
Oh, you got me started!

THAT pile of junk is meant for one thing only; separating unwary growers from their money as efficiently as possible.

that would be the DE, I was thinking about but its HPS.

I have a right mind to buy a Gavita Pro 600/750 I was really impressed with its display at canna last month. great throw and big numbers at 625watts, they had it over some kind of bush, and had a camera mounted on the bottom, and a screen showing the light doing and "X-RAY' effect on the leafs. I think the display plant had thinner leafs to emphasize the effect. N+ its always fun talking to people with Dutch accents lol.

I run two 315w (D-Papillon) in 4x3 tent. Just enough light, wouldn't trust the bulbs to cover any more area than that.
2 315's over a 3'x4' area ,,just enough light??? no way,, i run 2 boulder lamp 315's over a 4'x6' table thats double your square footage, 2 n a half to 3 feet above canopy lights the table very well.. ive been getting killer numbers with the 315's 1.5 gpw, far better than my best hps run.. i also ran 3 315's a total of 945 watts and had better yield than under 2 600 watt hps at 1200 watts..

That's a lot of light for that space. I've run 3.5x3.5' under 1x 315, current run under 1x 315 Sun Systems LEC is filling into 3x4'. Not that it'll be detrimental or anything as long as heat isn't an issue, but it's a lot of light in that space. Only thing that'll effect is efficiency/gpw, other than that you should get some nice yields, just not great gpw as your space is physically restricting what you can pull, regardless of strain/pheno/method.

Hey, glad to see you chime in here! You've done a lot of good work with 315W CMH systems, I knew these guys could get some valuable info from you.

i dunno what the advantage would be to the DE 315w over the SE? more efficient? able to crank it to 360w or more, and does that just use up bulbs faster?

Good to know, you just saved me a few hundred. Is there any one reflector you'd recommend over another?

I ran the suntec before, I switched to the hydrofarms phantom w/external ballast. worlds less heat with the ballast outside of the grow area.

but they both worked pretty much the same, I think suntec might have a better reflector, its the mirror type vs phantoms german hammer reflector whatevs.

I ended up going with the Phantom. External ballast was my thinking on it too. It's in a room with LED, so it wouldn't have been the worst thing ever, but I have a free line that was wired in anticipation of having external ballasts from the start, before I went with LED. I'm stoked on it... I'm interested to see what the nugs that receive both my COB/Blurple blend and the bleed from the LEC do.

I ran pretty much this same set up two years ago, there-abouts. 2x kind k3's and 2x suntec LEC @3100k in flower.

this is part of a long line of solutions in replacing 2x1000 area: it was still short quite a bit, but I was in the same zip code as the HPS at least. the CMH brings out a lot of colors in the grape ape I was running at the time. very stark deep purps, with dark orange pistils. vs the same mom: under HPS were bigger, but washed out more color wise, both didn't stay around long and till this day I still get asked for the ape, which coincidentally is on the next to be run: :P

the phantom is been great so far, by me, I was just thinking I need another one.

to be fair, thats only about 1200w compared to 2100w total draw
