Lawyers, Safe or Not?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had some info on the following topic: Would it be best to contact a lawyer before or after you do a grow. I was thinking before but is it safe to talk to a lawyer about what you're doing and making sure they're available (Im sure you'd have to tell them somewhat what you're doing)? Or would it be best to just keep their number in your wallet and use it after you get busted?

Subbed. I'm interested to hear answers.

Would you have access to your wallet after being arrested? Wouldn't it be better to memorize the lawyer's number just in case?

I've had lots of lawyers. Ideally it's best to have one on retainer at all times regardless of you're growing/breaking the law or not.

You don't need to tell them you are growing, I'd advise against it. If they ask why you want to retain a lawyer tell them that you want to be protected in the event something were to happen. (you can cite being threatened with arrest when you recently encountered a cop during a BS traffic stop and you questioned it -- make something up that's plausible) Wealthy people always have lawyers on call, why shouldn't you? Are you not entitled to the same "justice" that people of means enjoy?

The best thing about having a lawyer retained is whenever something happens you don't need to scramble to get one from jail and just having a lawyer in the first place will keep you out of a lot of shit. If someone that you're not comfortable talking with is asking you questions you can just pull out your lawyer's card and say "I don't make any comments about anything without my attorney's guidance". That shuts down a lot of shit on the spot. Sometimes someone will challenge you and ask who your lawyer is and if you don't really have one they will know.

The short answer, yes retain one (put money down this is very important to create a contract or you can be left in the cold if he's busy when you need him), don't need to tell them what you're doing. If you're ever hassled, just say "I have no comment without my attorneys advice".

As far as I know they cannot take your possessions away unless it's some sort of incriminating evidence, a weapon or illegal item. So sure you could memorize the number but it would be just as good to have a card in your wallet

Alright nice, nice. Thanks man, I appreciate the reply; When you were talking about putting money down do you mean paying them some prior to any quarrel you happen to have with the law so they know you can afford them or just having some money for when you need to actually have them come down?

Yeah, you retain them which means you put down some money and you're a client. If you need them you have them and anything that might come up in the future will cost whatever they figure, and generally they first use the funds you put down initially and if it's more you have to pay the extra. . I've had one that was $500.00 and others that were $1,000.00 - $1,500.00 and another guy I even traded some expensive items I had on hand. (nothing illegal)

NORML has a directory of lawyers with special expertise and experience in cannabis law. I'd look into contacting one from their list; you not only have the benefit of an attorney who you know is well versed in the particular issue that matters to you, but you can feel more free to openly discuss what you need with your attorney.

Just be aware: legally, attorney-client privilege (which protects you and your lawyer from having to disclose discussions related to weed) does NOT apply to seeking an attorney's advice on how better to commit a crime (so, if you ask your attorney for advice on how best to hide a grow op, that would invalidate it). Keep your questions dedicated to understanding how marijuana laws in your area work, and what to do to protect your rights and how to react if questioned by police; don't give them the impression you're seeking advice on how to hide a crime you're committing.

And don't go cheap either. Do your research on them. Another good way to do this is (as boring as it may sound) go hang out in open court and watch. Take names and mental notes. Now preventing being arrested in the first place is the best legal defense. But hey we all slip up from time to time. It happens. Also ALWAYS have enough funds to bond yourself out. In the event you ARE arrested the only person you need to call is a bondsman or your bail buddy. Never give ANY details over jail phones other than what you were arrested for. And don't be an ass to guards. Because they can take their sweet ass time if you piss them off. Your booking can go from an hour of getting printed and a mugshot taken and then a phone call to waiting around for 6 hours in a holding cell while they're poking around and laughing about it.
And no details to inmates either.

1 pay the lawyer a fee .......strait off 1 hour just peel the money off ....at that point is it is lawyer and Client so u are 100% protected ()except in on going crimal acts if the lawyer helps u in anyway they can be charged as a co offender) this waves the client /lawyer protection ....also if a 3rd party is in the room that wavies client/lawyer protection

2 if u are going to talk to them everything is prue theory never admit u done anything illegal to the lawyer once they know the whole 100% truth it limits them in arguements (they can not argue a lie in court) ........word things in what if/ say this happen/ pure theory but what about

3 if u are going to ask about protecting your assets from seizure .........make sure u do not admit to anything as it would make it a crime for him to tell u any legal advice

this is assuming the lawyer is on the up and up ..............if u get one like i have had say what ever mine was selling E on the side
