Nepali watermelon hashplant is now germinating for an open pollination. Bohdi seeds.
how large of a population will you be pollinating? will you be doing preliminary selection towards traits for acclimation to the local conditions or just letting anyone who grows live? what are your goals for this population?

First create more from the stock germinated...this is in a separate facility and I believe they have 11 started...we will pollinate all females with all males available from he 11 and then germinate as many as possible from the resulting progeny and acclimate to our elevation while looking for shorter flowering phenotypes ( this variety has an 11 to 15 week window of ripeness via various phenotypes) and begin breeding as many males that exhibit that trait with females that do as well...keeping multiple phenotypes available while still trying to inbreed the fastest ones ( we personally want shorter pheno thats the reasoning for this, it will be in the description once they have been bred but that is quite a few years away )

We want these plants to be able to deal with our harsh environment but also the altitude indoors so we will probably take our time and really try to see as many expressions as possible from he first round of seeds we inbreed. Most of the landrace genetics we pop we will have to start by creating a larger seed stock first then proceed from those in selection we will let his be known on our packs in ge description as we dont want to mislead people into thinking this will give them every possible expression available. They will say open pollinated from limited stock hen list the pheno and seed lot numbers from he selection......I know right? List the test subject number.....sketchy!!!! But maybe we will release these with a link to a special sight that lists that info instead...?? Ideas are welcome!!! I never claim to have all the answers or best ideas, that's fir sure!

okay I gotcha

is it going to be an outdoor or indoor project?

im sure you dont need to stress over it, people should be doing there research before buying seeds anyway all it takes is 2 minutes and a google search lol

We will breed the first run inside and then the larger run outside probably in the winter in a light del then in the summer regularly to compare and contrast and also to expose tge population to year round conditions

hahhaa well il talk a bit about the land races we have and how we got them.
one of our friends in denver works for a breeder and knows alot of people in the industry. we get a call one day that someone he knows who has been traveling collecting seeds for years and years of indigenous varieties. This guy was moving to Israel and was either going to flush all of his hard work down the toilet ( because he had a newborn baby there and couldnt risk the travel and customs etc nor could he cultivate there at all) or he was going to sell them to people he believed were honest folks who were not going to exploit the amazing score for fast cash.
So we contact this guy and he agrees to meet with us and long story short he shows us picture over picture of the varieties (33) total i believe. and we walked away from this meeting with 12 of the coveted varieties. The next day he boarded a plane, but before he asked us one more time if we wanted anymore before he trashed the rest. we declined as we were hours away and had expended our budget. I wont name everything we have because i like a bit of mystique and fun, but il give a few out: sanai peninsula (Egypt) , Jordanian, Kerala, Kenyan
What else do you have from Africa and do you have anything in the mix from SE Asia?

Cool to see someone else working with Landraces. Not alot of people or companies are doing so. Yeah you'd be good to add Congolese and Swazi. Durban would be good if you could locate something true. I have a friend who has a garden shop in South Africa, will remember to ask him his thoughts on that. Those Indian varieties should be good for hash making, Parvati Valley is known for its cream.

We have a Sinai peninsula from Egypt. Some Morrocan I believe some Malawi ....going to try and source some more south African stuff soon. Congolese and Swazi red are on my list.... from Asia we have 2 kinds of Indian Kerala and pavarti we have Nepalese hashplant China Yunnan and another I'm having trouble recalling
How are you sourcing these genetics? other breeders?

Some of our other breeders are using gear from other companies that are public like bodhi and snow high also.

So last night I did the final pollination and shook he living hell out of the male in he chamber before spraying him down. I then chopped him up and double bagged him....sprayed that down and then bagged again and sprayed.....can't be too careful.....jumped in the shower ......was in board shorts so didn't need to wash clothes! So we have received pistils everywhere and after this last pollen sits for 72 hours on the girls il start cleaning, spraying and deactivating all the pollen on the girls and room.

So I emailed ace about he Durban that wasn't Durban, this is both emails....

Greetings,

We just are retailers of Cannabiogen, so the strains we sell from them are not breed by us,
but Cannabiogen is a very honest and legit seedbank and the Durban line should be what it is.
When a line has been tamed, seedlings can produce fatter leaves in early stages, just let them develop and judge them for their flowering traits.

Kind regards - ACE Seeds -

I dropped a mail to my mate in S. Africa yesterday. Will let you know what he says on the Durban. Ace doesnt generally deal with African landraces so I dont expect them to know and since Cannibiogen is their "sister" company I also expect an answer like that. Ace is good for their Hazes and I heard their Yunan is correct one along with some of the Asian ones, but not Africa. Malberry being offered at Hemp Depot has some real deal African genetics.
