Jiffy Pot Transplant

Just a quick question guys, I posted this on our journal thread but no responses...

When we transplant our seedlings into bigger pots, should we just put the whole jiffy pot in the new pot of soil, or should we take the seedling out of the jiffy pot and replant it in soil?

We need to transplant asap, getting root bound I think. Could someone get back to me on this?? Thanks guys!

You can check the pics below:

Back when I grew in soil I just put the jiffy pot in. They will completely degrade into soil. No use risking breaking some roots.

Pop the plant out or just plant the whole thing if it wont come out. you are not ready to trans plant yet going by those pictures. 14 days is a good guide then re-pot.

Me I'd just remove jiffy and transplant..just wait till dry (stops roots all falling apart) then just roll pot in your hand to loosen up and tr.p..I've seen a bit of back & forth about burying the pots..
(the glue, binder).. ?? I don't know..but why take chance, when tp is easy.. when you do just hold off on nutes for a day or two so plant get its footing in it's new home.. luck

If the jiffy pot is wet you can very easily tear it apart without disturbing the roots.

In my experience jiffy pots slighty stunt growth when the roots attempt to grow through the sides. Not major, but a little.

Thanks so much, you made up our mind. We're cutting the pots off to do the transplant, just to be safe.

We'll keep the journal be sure to check back to see how things turn out!

Thanks guys!
