I dont know much about him other than I think he was a governor which is a good thing and he sounds like a redneck which is Ironic if he got elected after Obama and I have to say the thought does tweak the liberals quite a bit which is another plus.

What is the downside on this guy?

He's a Bush...

He's also not really a fiscal conservative if that's what you are looking for.

His son is a future rockstar. He is not only a Bush, he's able to claim minority status. We should be seeing him running against Chelsea in the not too distant future.

he has too many family issues that would be brought out into the open..specifically his kids.

he seems to be a moderate, too.

who on the right considers themselves moderate?

What do family issues have to do with running the country? This isnt a popularity contest.

I have given up right and left and I have realized that I am a libertarian essentially. Less government, lower taxes, less regulation, etc.

The Republican party walked away from me, not the other way around.

All his opponent would have to say is "He's George W's brother, people".

the right will find he's too eccentric for their taste, he was a governor here in florida.

I dont know if Libertarians are open border or not. I am pretty sure most people in the world understand the purpose of a border.

My big problem with immigration is the current failed immigration policy and the tolerance for politicians that talk a good game but never fix the problem decade after decade.

Some Libertarians are for open borders, some aren't. None are for open borders in a welfare state.
