Yeah yeah I know how you do it qwis... roor is making these ISO brownies that look so good I'm wondering how. I'm excited to try doing a qwiso extraction with this old glass lined thermos I found... harvest time can't arrive fast enough. I thought maybe it looked like it was vac-ed but reading back in this thread I assume it takes long periods of low heat to get it to look like a fuckin cookie

My first attempt at QWISO. It dried on the plate until I could scoop it up with a razor blade. Then I put about 2 grams back into the cup. It is almost hard now. I am going to let it harden up more until it is like glass. I am confident it will look the same as it does in the picture. My RSO does when I let it harden up.

After it is fully hardened, I am going to lightly warm it with a coffee cup warmer until it melts. Then I will mix in some PG USP and try it out in my vaporizer.

It will be my first time trying QWISO with a vape.

It reminds me of RSO without the decarbing step. However, I did try a little in a bowl and it was smoother and tasty. Can't wait to try it in my vape!

Oh yea
Don't listen to me....wasn't paying any attention....high too:)

Yea that was with vac
Aha that's what I thought. You are right qwis better quality is easier to attain with ISO. I've learned that the higher yield with BHO also means you end up with more fats & lipids you don't really need. I saved a bit for comparison & but I'm still on the fence about which is "better," I mean it's all relevant & I like both but the ease of qwiso plus the high quality has me leaning to ISO. I plan to employ all methods of concentrate production to get the best of all worlds

My goal was to test the QWISO in an e-cigg vaporizer.

I have wood burners for heat and fans blowing on the oil. It has been a couple days now. It is super thick, but not like glass hard. That would probably take a good week or two. Like I have seen with RSO.

I checked how thick the oil was when this picture was taken. It is thicker than my RSO when it is complete. I am confident all of the alcohol has evaporated out.
QWISO 2013_11160002.jpg

I warmed it up with my coffee mug warmer to melt it up then added propylene glycol USP and mixed it well. I gently warmed the mixture and stirred it around again to be sure it was blended well. You must be careful about too much heat or too long on the mug warmer because it will start to vaporize.

I tried out QWISO e-juice for the first time with my eGo C Twist and an iClear16 clearomizer. I am impressed. It seems to offer a different buzz compared to RSO being vaporized in the same manner. The buzz seems to hit more instantly, similar to smoking bud. It is very potent. After my second vape hit I already had a buzz. Took a couple more hits a few hours ago and I am still buzzing.

I like it. This is my first impression of it comparing it to RSO in a vaporizer. I think I like it better. I only see one problem for me though. That was a lot of alcohol evaporating in my house just to get a couple of grams of oil. When I make RSO it is easy to do a quantity, since the evaporation is done outdoors with a rice cooker.

Any suggestions on the best way to evaporate the alcohol to do like 1/4 pound of premium bud without all the fumes in the house?

Making just two grams of oil made from a little less than 1/2 oz of bud was not a problem, but I am picturing doing a large quantity, like 1/4 pound of bud potentially being a problem.

Didn't have the sunshine when I took the pictures so the true color is not showing, but it does have a nice premium transparent amber color. This was from three fast frozen washes. Now I would like to see the oil made from one or two fast frozen washes.

Iso shines in large production..I pick up a gallon(via pint bottles) for $10 or just under...no other solvent can beat that price, especially since its "pure"..just a trace of water.

I typically run 2-4 ozs at a time..using the entire plant minus fan leaves...I try and keep it whole

Do the extraction at sundown..light kills thc..thc is more sensitive to light than heat! Especially in solution(till its purged)....anyway slight rambling I had to let out

I use a simple box fan to pull the fumes out a window or my back door..iso is not like butane and the same safety requirements are not needed...you can smoke, static ain't no thing..etc

The fumes however will give you a headache and all that jazz......just pump it outside

But yea rso will be about half as potent as its being degraded by the rice cooker

Also.....proper qwiso should end up as powder like my avater or tc's last pic....are you heating to goo? That's not good...your not purging by doing that

Oh and midnite.......from a scientific/theoretical standpoint, qwiso is the purest extract..then winterized bho...then bho..then wax..
Though qwiso is much harder to do and can easily make the worst extract of the group..20 seconds or less is critical..as is lack of heat(sorry :) )
Qwet though or ethanol in general makes a terrible extraction being more polar and is more suited for winterizing.. the polar solvents have to be quick washes and yield suffers.....quality however is top notch as like dissolves like..qwiso prefers the cannabinoids over the other compounds, like fat and nasties

I'd really be interested to see a side by side with a winterized BHO run, and a qwiso run, I bet the BHO won't yield that much more once its winterized to a comparable purity as the qwiso.

That would be interesting...bet the qwiso will always taste better
And I've never personally seen winterized bho not be amber..shatter shouldn't be amber.
I would also love to actually send out extracts for testing..one day....

Someone needs to invent a portable hplc or some kind of home tester..some guys are willing to lay 600 for a vape. I would pay a g or 2 (maybe)to be able to test my product at home
I would kill for accurate terp retention etc to help refine my process

I am not sure how you can say that RSO is only half as potent. How can that be possible when me and my group are getting test results of 80 to mid 90% pure THC. How can you figure that is half as potent as QWISO?
Have you had the opportunity to try quality RSO? I know if I ate 1/2 gram of my RSO I would be high as a kite for three days.

Please, don't advise me about purging my products. I don't consider us to be in the same oil making category. Mine looks different than yours for a lot of reasons. You are not going to produce premium concentrates until you can produce premium buds. The oil has been purge tested. If there was any iso left in the material, it would not have passed the purge test. THCa is more of a gooey form. Have you ever grabbed a fresh bud and saw how oily and sticky it is? Especially a good hash plant. That is the way my oil is. Undamaged, clean, and safe. Ganja
I took 4 hits this morning and I am still feeling it.

The next batch of oil I am making, RSO and QWISO, will be 100% organic, from the seed to the finished product.

I am sure there will still be trolls that will have their doubts, complaints, and do their usual finger pointing. How can you make these purge comments when I have not shown a picture of my product fully done, except for what I mixed for my vaporizer?

Feel free to post some pictures of your process. Nice new ones would be great.

Potency is probably in the same category as the RSO. There is a buzz difference and different effects because the RSO has been decarbed. Sometimes when I am vaping with RSO, it can take 10 minutes before the buzz hits. That is one of the reasons why I kind of prefer the QWISO for vaping. It is more like smoking a joint where you know what you are getting right away. Because the QWISO is not decarbed, yes it is smoother and easier to consume, but I don't really get any taste at all, just a touch of ganja. The RSO is much more tasty in my vape.

How is it you are coming up with information that is opposite of mine? Like QWISO being more tasty? It is obvious to me that you don't have that much experience with multiple concentrates.

Edit: No, the oil is not gooey looking due to using heat to purge. I did not use heat to purge, I used a fan. The reason why the oil is in the pan is to melt it to be able to add and mix in the PG USP. I did not let it dry and harden. It is thick and plyable. If I put it in the refrigerator, it would be rock hard. It is too thick to suck up into a syringe unless it is warmed. Then to be able to get it out of a syringe, if you had a syringe full, you would have to warm up the syringe in a baggie submerged in hot water.

When you say shatter shouldn't be amber can you elaborate? My last few runs I stopped using heat during the evap process. Mostly I get white crystal like your avatar but there's usually pockets of oily globs in the second run which I attribute to it being the second run and not so pure. But the first run all white crystals which isn't very dabbable. So I scrape it into a like and lightly warm the dish and the powder comes together and is shatter when cool but always turns amber.

Lol....I won't even acknowledge that one

..nobody on this forum will believe mid 90's thc....I'm sorry to have offended you though lmao

As has been much topic of discussion I'm not one for pics..as I said in the thread I put my avatar in..those were the first pics in months..ocassionally I'll show a bud or exceptional wash..like the pink wax I'll put up some time in a day or too
But people have given me a lot of crap for lack of pics...that's cool with me.....

I use tc as an example often..part of the reason is because he has ample photos
His "powder" is yellow. Very light...not white but it is high quality for sure..when he compressed it, say the half shatter like and half waxy picture...the color wasn't really changed. It was Still a beautiful yellow...(couple pages back, and it waxed proper, proper nucleation is lighter in color)...yea go tc:)
My "powder" is white, a lot of the reason is how I purge keeping it super saturated. It is white mainly because of the extreme grain boundaries....but that is not the only reason, it is fresh frozen no heat or light touches it..ever..made with just slightly premature landrace Sativas..my avatar was a 25weeker...yes when melted it darkens..heat and oxygen and light will darken as well as removing the boundaries........but pure thc is light gold...amber has amber trichome heads-cbn but all the terps are different colors..you can have almost clear white shatter using certain plants and bright red off others...I prefer the powder as its not sticky it resembles pure cocaine-"snow"...
If you collect my white powder it will be a transparent jelly bean resembling very light honey

Thanks for the props man :). I have some batchs that turn out lighter then others, and I have some that wax and some that shatter, some that are like taffy. I have been processing all my material exactly the same lately, and have got many different textures and colors....it seems soooo much of both those things comes down to strain, or more specifically the resin profile of each plant. I don't get the full wax or the full shatter typically from mixed stain runs, vs when I run a whole batch of one type of bud. I can definitely tell the difference in the oil when I let a plant go an extra week longer, or harvest it a week sooner. The first batch of power nap oil I had harvested the plant at the end of 7 weeks, this last batch it was almost 9 just to see what kinda difference I noticed in the plant(yield, flavor, potency etc.). I have a hard time judging potency as I smoke and dab so much, but it didn't seem to make much other difference so I'll proly take it around 8 weeks in the future. Yoou can notice that the oil is a deeper gold color then the original batch which is(correction was, its long gone :) ) a brighter yellow. I think thats the batch qwizo is talking about a few pages back. I had a batch of Sin's OG oil 2 weeks ago that was even more bright yellow then that but forgot to take pics and only had it for like 24hrs. So anyway just thought I'd share, we all know how important strain and starting material is, but that being said I do not consider an oil to be less quality just because its a slightly different color unless that color is black or green. I really wish I had the ability to get some tests done, and I'm working on making that happen. I might have a connection at Iron labs developing and I'm hoping it will result in some new opportunities.

I will have to agree with that ThunderCat. Different strains will always yield different finished product, in color, texture, taste, and effects.

As for testing in the 80-mid 90 percentiles. My connection with Iron Labs has produced some mid to upper 80% THC oil. They have sampled my RSO and they really want me to get mine tested because they are confident it will end up testing in the 90 percentile range.

I have seen oil made from low grade product (sugar shake and popcorn buds) test in the mid 80's that was obtained from a local dispensary. So using my absolute best quality stuff won't do better than that eh? We'll see.

I want to get my different quality oils tested so I can have a comparison. I would also like to one day have each strain tested. Cannabis Camp is at that point. They are now able to create whatever THC:CBD ratio they want. They have individual strains set aside so it can be mixed to whatever the patient's preference is. I am not standing here saying that the test results are 100% accurate, I cannot say for sure. I don't think anyone really can. All I know is the stuff that is coming out in the 70% range is considered a higher CBD oil. 80% and up is considered a high THC oil.

I speak with Northern Labs here and there too. I will have to see if he is still in to running testing.

Here is some stuff (RSO) that I wish I did have tested.
RSO2.jpg2013_03300015.jpg2013_03190064-cropped.jpg

I wish I would have had the opportunity to have each of these tested. I would have liked to have been able to see the difference between them.

Final stage of purging solvent (RSO method).
2013_03190036.jpg

This is what was left over after filling 4 10mL syringes.
2013_02140106 (800x600).jpg

As you can see this oil is darker. It should be the lightest of them all going by the extraction methods I used. However, my BBJ strain always makes the oil come out darker. The oil is premium, just darker. So I just don't use that strain anymore for making oil. I like the lighter colored, more amber oil.

Looking good bro..yea that's more like what you should have after purge

Diggin the pink look..is it pink in real life?
I've had some pink wax once only!
That's the pic I was gonna throw....when I get around to a comp

Well I made it by mistake kind of a couple times now. It's probably just the lighting that may give it a bit of pink look I dunno but it was pure white as snow except for where it was a tiny bit warmer than the rest which was suuuuuuuuper cold.
Not ISO though, butane. Just super cold and deep solvent purged with only a fan in a very cold out building with deep freezer cold butane, and deep frozen ground bud.
When I came back to check on it all the butane was gone and there was a solid mass of snow white powder. That picture I took after I broke it all up to see what the fuck was going on.

When I broke it up some of the white powder went a light golden color.
I later melted it down then honeycombed it.

I preach no heat all day

When I warmed it and melted it down, then vac'd it to honeycomb it still purged butane for a good few hours though. I could tell because I could see the butane "oil color" in the bubbles that were bursting.

So my question is: How do you know all your ISO, or in this case Butane is completely purged out of it if you are smoking the white powder without purging it?

I don't have a market for this white powder so I made honeycomb out of it. But it seemed to stay pretty stable at temps I think up to 80-90F I can't say for certain but I don't think it even started melting until I had it in stoneware "oven" over 100 F..
