Is weed that has or had Powdery Mildew still smokeable..??

Honest answer please...

I have a slight case of PM...only a few leaves...none on the buds or stems.

I'm not asking how to control it...figured that out and corrected mistakes...too high humidity....too cold at night, removed infected leaves..more air circulation etc. Got stuff to spray on leaves etc.

Now if it gets worse...I'm just going to toss it...or make hash out of it...or harvest early.

Still a month from harvest though...

My question is...if I get it under control...will the harvest be smokeable? I know the dangers of smoking mildewy weed.

If between now and harvest I don't see any more....will it be ok?

hard to say, but if the buds look good, then smoke away
You mean the buds at harvest time...right?

Right now other then the few blotches the plant looks stellar. No signs of distress...no dying leaves...

Like I said If by the end of next week I see more of it...it's gone.

I don't have the time to waste on a maybe....

yah, i'd say that so long as the buds look clean by harvest, you should be ok.. just keep a keen eye on it for the rest of the grow.. if it gets any worse, i'd just do as you had said, and make some primo qwiso out of it as the alcohol should kill any bacteria that maybe present..

Sorry about the lousy pics....neighbors camera.

If you get things under control I seen no reason to toss your crop. If it comes back I recommend you harvest early, its better to get something than nothing

Make sure you inspect your buds once you harvest. Any sign of mold and you should toss it.

This post reminds me of shroom growers (not that I would ever do anything like that :-P) that would toss their shrooms if any of the mycelium got mold. Which is just plain silly. As long as theirs not mold on the thing your smoking/eating/fornicating then you should be fine :D

I only have one plant and realize it was the raised humidity that brought the onslaught.
Colorado is very dry in the winter so we keep a pot of water on the stove all winter...well it's spring and raining every day and that pot is still going ( Turned off now) Lol...
I mean it can get really dry here, like 8% percent humidity ....!!!

Anyway I may be fortunate in one way...the spring water here is high in minerals ( sodium bicarbonates etc) and has a 8.3 ph ...add a like bit Hydrogen Peroxide ...mmm...?
I have help coming tonight...so maybe it will work out.

However if I see any of that crap anywhere near my buds,,,and believe me I looked....60X 4 inch diameter lens looked to make sure none of that was even near my buds...and am not taking chances either and clipping most of the little lower popcorn buds....( tossing them)

My help said we are cleaning out the room..bleaching the floors etc... turning the lights back on...spraying the whole plant ( Big Colas covered ) and fan drying it....it is on a lazy susan,( To slowly spin dry)

I realize it was my fault for not checking it earlier...but I do have my license for a reason. ( Bad back)

I give it to next Saturday.....then it stays or goes....

I've seen pictures of people with way way way ....way more then I have,,,if I had theirs I would have tossed them long ago...( I think every bodies pictures had more then my mine...and many on one leaf....insane why someone would keep those!!!!)

I'm talking about a few spots....like if you placed them all side by side it would fit in a half dollar...
So thanks to this forum I have all the info I need,,.......

Hope this works

That I would never do ( Smoke obviously moldy weed )
I'm never that desperate to get high..I have enough problems without getting emphysema or something.....
And since I don't smoke or use leaf ( even bud trim), that is no loss.
Peace...

Right, but judging from what hes posted, the actual buds on his plants never got a blast of the mold. So theirs no reason to think that the weed is moldy.

I have dealt with plenty of PM. If it gets on the buds, cut it out, cut out any leaves that have it, just try to keep it at bay. After harvest, if any buds have PM, cut out the parts with it and dry the rest. Any parts with PM that dry will end up turning a weird light brown and not look at all like the rest of the buds. Just get rid of the weird looking parts.

This powdery mildew is nothing like the mold you can get while curing. Never smoke any mold. Mold occurs when you leave fresh or not fully dried/cured buds in a jar for too long without opening. This is not powdery mildew.. this is MOLD. Powdery mildew can lead to bud rot which is the weird colored buds. Don't smoke those.. but overall, your plants will be fine.

Well that was quite the evening....

My " help " arrived...he drove 60 miles round trip...

Took my plant into the shower room and blasted it with a high PH and Baking soda solution...buds and everything ! He then fan blew it dry...4 oscillating fans....then re-did the solution.
I mean he was manhandling the plant....spraying tops and bottoms of leaves...bending branches....like bear charging through the woods...
Cut out a bunch of leaves ( for air circulation )
Fan dried the last solution spray....waited an hour....then gave it a heavy shower in rain water he collects and purifys..( to remove build up and reduce water marks )

Then setting up the 4 oscillation fans he dried it again....left 2 small fans blowing through the foliage all night.

He looked at the leaves I had cut off and told me I got in time....put together the mold spots would fit in a silver dollar. None of the buds..even the pop corn had it...it was only showing up where the leaves were sitting right on top of each other...

Now I have one large oscillating fan and 1 small ones blowing away on it.....

He says too many people are paranoid about showering their plants during bud...and for most growers it's not feasible...but for people like me with just one or two plants...as long as I dried it properly t would be fine. Especially in an emergency like this...

His statement was it rains in nature...outdoor weed gets rained on all the time..!!! Just make sure to dry it...to prevent bud rot.

He cleaned the room..replaced the Mylar...moved my plant down away from the lights more ( temporarily since they are in kinda of shock)

I have alot ( a lot more) more red hairs today..but he said that was the just the shower and spray abuse....give it a few days to recover and it should look more normal. And some of the white hairs are starting to unfold again.

He's coming back today to test PH...he forgot his soil tester....

And finally he said that if it did reappear by next weekend ....he would just pull it and give me another clone that is close to flowering..something called Cindaberry ?.( after cleaning the room a second time)..he is personally coming back next weekend to check....!!!

Hows that for a friend ? He was here until 2am...

You know the first thing he said when he arrived...." Man it is not so humid in here anymore..did you turn the stove pot off? ( which I did indeed do)

His fianl analysis was too high humidity and not enough airflow...I had raised my fan( about a month ago) to hit the lights more then the plant...now it's back on the plant.

Live and learn...

It's not so much that I would loose the plant...it was all the time and effort I had into it...and being bedridden...it was a lot of time and trouble ( I can barely walk..due to crushed spinal column)

I wasn't so much worried about not getting any smoke as my friend is also my caregiver and buries me in free bud anyway ( I haven't bought weed in 5 months thanks to him !)

My plant was more of a hobby then anything else.....something to get my mind off the pain....even for just a minute or two while I go back and admire it...tinker with it..etc.

It was set on stand so I wouldn't have to bend over and sat on a lazy susan so I could spin the plant to look at it from all sides...etc.

I wish I had more friends like him...( he was my friend long long before he was my caregiver )

Hopefully this will work...he says it should.

Peace....

EDIT: He did say I would a loose a couple of weeks( due to trauma and recovery time) so harvest will be in a month instead of 6 weeks. So I may not get what I was shooting for but it will not be a total lose.

Then as he was leaving he dropped a bag of several different strains in my lap...to mellow me out he said...lol..

What a friend...!!!

All these dumbasses telling you not to smoke moldy bud are just dumasses. Ive smoked a lot of moldy bud in my 30 years of smoking bud and still no bad effects. I wish people would give advice from experience and not just repeat what other dum asses say. Of course the best way to prevent PW, and yes this is from experience is either sparying your plants with 100% peroxide solution 2 times daily or to use 1/2 a teaspoon per gallon of water baking soda. If you mix more than 1/2 teaspoon you will kill your hairs hence stunting growth but it will kill the mold. And just check really good every day for any white mold spots. There is also sum sulfur based organic sprays you can use. But FROM EXPERIENCE I believe once a plant is infected it never really fully recovers you can only keep the pw at bay until you tottally disenfect the room with bleach or sulfur burn or preferabbly both and get a new batch of plants, look for mold resistant breeds some sites tell you.And ALWAYS HAVE A FAN BLOWING ON YOUR PLANTS..........ALWAYS !!!.......... Sorry if I offended any dumbasses, heee but if your gonna say moldy weed kills then have some actual data to back up your claims. And Im not saying that moldy weed is better or even good but from 30 years of moldy and unmoldy smokin weed every day, Im still healthy. But yes try to get rid of all the mold you can just to be smart and safe.

Hi, everyone. I just wanted to know do the mold on your bud goes away? My husband had the buds in a jar, when I looked at one it had white fluffy on it. So when he got home I told him about the mold I found, but when he look at it he ask me where it was, I took a look at it and it wasn't there no more. Does anyone know how that works? I swear it was there but then I look at it, it was gone. Do we still get rid of the bud?

did you have it stored in the fridge/freezer??
could have possibly been some freezer burn.

Otherwise, I dont know how mold wouly just disappear like that.
Next time dry your buds longer before jarring it up!

I believe you can water cure it and get rid of the PM. There is a thread here in the General section about water curing bud that has mold on it and saving it. It's pretty current so you should be able to find it easily.

i dont know that putting buds in water will kill PM or get rid of the toxins it produces :wall:

Next time, you can consider spraying sulfur on your plants (pre flowering) as a preventative measure for PM

Should be available at a hardware/garden store for rosebushes/grapevines
