Hello, I am currently using a Apollo 400w MH HID not even a good brand but bulb is decent. I wanna try and replace that if i can, I only have around $150 to spend. Is the MH the best thing for a 3x3 area 4 to 5 plants in 2 gal pots is all I do or can I get something better for the same price as a 400w MH? Maybe just get a higher mh quality bulb. Would this be better than a MH? Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thank you
Chris

Steer clear of cheap LEDs on Amazon. At your $150 budget, for a 3x3, HID seems a much more sensible choice. Get another 400w and you'll rock the shit out of that space.

Inexpensive LED is less efficient than HID. It's a downgrade as many HID users have found.

The CMH cobkits mentioned is worth considering. If you DIY you could build something for around $200-250. My advice would be to save until you have enough for 4-6 CLU058-1825s or Vero29Cs a 320w Meanwell driver and some fat passive heat sinks. It will cost you a little more but you will have something better than what you can buy retail and it will last years.

Thanks for all the replies. I did find this setup...it says i can add 2 more to make 4 for later., do you think this is a setup that would be ok for what i want to replace.. or something like that. its $200 but i might be able to spring for that. http://timbergrowlights.com/100-watt-citizen-clu048-2-cob-grow-light-kit/#product-reviews

Grab that from cobkits, he has the same kit, but 200w for around same price.

Hps is oldtech and innefficient. Go LED be it COBs or strips or quantum boards. Id do strips/COB/QB over HPS anyday.

F series - ~170 lumens per watt - ~$300 for 500w

EB strips - ~160 lumens per watt - ~150$ for 500w

CMH is what 140 lm/w? Most HPS has an inferior PAR to most of these LED we grow with and is all crammed in one bulb in the middle.
