point is im only saying buddhism is less undesirable than christianity, also one minute your saying your in haiti, then your not probably, then your in haiti again?, ...stoned explains that bit no prob....about the wealthy atheist donors who desire to remain anonymous..ummm thats a hard one...cos they desire not to blow their own trumpet & tell the world of their generosity & are just content knowing they have helped, do you really believe that only those very visible groups operating in those disaster zones are the only people who are doing anything?
Regardless of the specific religiousity of the men who show up in the dark behind, the point is made. It is not relevant that you feel safer amongst budhists or christians unless you do not categorize budhism as a religion. Maybe both you and the OP need to re-read the opening poll question.
I was in Haiti in 2010, not sure what got you confused. Maybe you can share your thought process in the "Hallucinatory Substance" forum. Maybe you can find the Christians blowing there own trumpet there too. Is your only acquaintence with relgious people based on TV evangelists?

Where did I go off topic? Are you angry that I feel this world would be a better place without religion? Many people donate money anonymously through charities. I am talking about religion collectively, and I am sorry to tell you, the cons out weigh the pros in regards to religion. Good day sir!

Take a step back and figure out your inclusion. Not that difficult.

So give your cons and try to stay away from ignorant generalizations or someone may ask you for an example that you will have to dance around.

Radicals
Terrorists
sharia law
civil liberties diminished
Tax exempt
just to name a few.

Can you provide me an example of any religion, promoting civil liberties? I din't think so. You're welcome.

Unequivocally without

Mainly because religion is so intertwined with politics in most world governments. The US is the only country on Earth that expressly prohibits it and the Christian right have done everything in their power since Reagan to change that. Some of the major issues we face today as a country stem directly from these people's interpretation of Christianity; gay rights, abortion, stem cells, it even touches on issues like climate change, with the argument that only God can change the Earth in such a significant way, and racism in biblical passages that condone slavery (Leviticus 25:44-46, Exodus 21:2-6, Exodus 21:7-11, etc.)

Western civilization has pretty much moved passed some of the worst aspects of Christianity like witch burnings, crusades and religious wars, but people still use religion to justify modern wars. In the east, religion literally is the cause of war.

"With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil — that takes religion." -Steven Weinberg

While @bravedave frantically googles for an example of any religion promoting civil liberties, let's put some in the air for all atheists around the world.
You do realize that freedom of religion is itself a civil liberty, right?
Most the liberties you enjoy are a direct consequence of the Judeo/Christian influence in the founding of this country...assuming you live in the U.S.
As to your cons...Are you talking about "radical" budhists? Terrorist presbaterians? Do you understand why churches are tax exempt? Do you think more starving children are provided food, education, homes, medical services by the religious than are blown up by the "religious"?

First, your first point concerning the Budhists is really no different than my point in response to the actual point of the thread. The rest is off point and rather ignorant. I ran across nobody nor any group that was in Haiti for notoriety. Who are these people you speak of and who are all the big atheist contributors?
highly atheist sweden is the most generous nation on earth per capita.

the government provides way more food, education, homes, and medical care than any religious groups combined will ever.

that's why kent snyder died and private charity only covered 1/10th of his medical bills.

Similarly, not the point here Uncle Puke. If you want a thread describing how governments are better than religion then you can drag those atheists Stalin and Mao over to a thread where that is being discussed.

You do realize, that I asked you several hours ago to name one religion that promotes civil liberties. You deflected my question because you cannot give me an answer.

No, i think I just pointed out that most ALL your civil liberities are a result of religiosity. I apologize though for my tone, as yesterday was a bad day and normally I don't bother getting into discussions with those who are obviously lacking the facts as well as missing a coherent way of delivering them. You mention your education though, care to share some specifics. A smile to start THIS day would be appreciated. Although, I did smile once I realized that Uncle Puke must have had a couple posts removed. Was it before or after you tried to suck his dick with your avatar compliment?

Look at his signature, you publicly educated fool. Tell me if I am kissing up to him. Speaking of sucking dicks, we will leave that up to the priests in your beloved congregation. Were you an altar boy, Did you enjoy it?

Are you one now, or are 8 year olds too young? Oh and being a "strong advocate for civil liberties is like being a strong advocate for chocolate or weed. Grow up and quit being the dunce. ( like your parents and teachers have told you, time and again.)

:). <--yeah

Like I said, there will be no sucking of the dicks in this thread. If you want to suck dick, I suggest you go back to your congregation, where your priests will be happy to oblige. Good day, you cock sucker.

your thread is a good & legitimate one herban, but as usual the small minded have to come in and start the name calling because they cannot offer anything much else on a topic, btw i love that dinosaur/jesus/who's the chick? pic
That girl in the picture represents the indoctrination of our youth, The dinosaur represents facts that dispute Christianity. The asshole yelling in the picture, is a myth.
