The title says it all. I will start off. It is my strong opinion, that the world is better off without religion. I would prefer a society, more focused on education, and helping those who need a hand. What say you?

i cant believe nobody has responded to this very essential question of the universe, personally i think the world would be better off without religion & i think its a crime to forcefeed it down the gullet of kids...or anyone who specifically doesnt ask for it, how many people have been killed in the name of the lord or allah or huey? scary thing is even without religion to fight over, im sure us glorified monkies would be killing just as many of ourselves for every other reason...honestly im amazed we have made it as far as we have..im afraid we are just hardwired to be the most absurd creature on the planet....:dunce:

Not religious myself, however I did run down to Haiti with a group of Christians to help hand out food and provide general help. Looking around there, I was amazed that I did not see any atheist groups duplicating what I saw dozens of Christian ones doing. Ok, maybe I wasn't.

That said, I think the leftist indoctrination that happens in our schools and intensifies in our colleges is more destructive than any religious one.

Another question maybe is....you are walking down a dark street in a "bad neighborhood" and 4 men pop out from between 2 buildings and begin following you. Would you find it comforting to know they just came from a bible study?

That's a good point Brave Dave lol. Religious groups do help out with feeding the impoverished. How was your experience in Haiti? I am speaking about religion, collectively. Many individual facets of religion try to do more good than harm.

dave i would feel much safer if those 4 men were buddhists than christians, also may i add there are wealthy athiests who donate money & resources but dont make a big show of it all like the christian do gooder groups, they prefer to help but in an anonymous way, personally it makes me sad the braggart way christians always love to showoff their humanitarian aid, hey guess where most of the church's money comes from to do that humanitarian stuff? sucked out of the poor masses of latin america, poor suckers give their last peso to the church they are soo desperate for any relief from their misery the church can promise

its the truth man, & christianity cannot stand up to it
First, your first point concerning the Budhists is really no different than my point in response to the actual point of the thread. The rest is off point and rather ignorant. I ran across nobody nor any group that was in Haiti for notoriety. Who are these people you speak of and who are all the big atheist contributors?

point is im only saying buddhism is less undesirable than christianity, also one minute your saying your in haiti, then your not probably, then your in haiti again?, ...stoned explains that bit no prob....about the wealthy atheist donors who desire to remain anonymous..ummm thats a hard one...cos they desire not to blow their own trumpet & tell the world of their generosity & are just content knowing they have helped, do you really believe that only those very visible groups operating in those disaster zones are the only people who are doing anything?

I makes no matter what believe.
How can you tell the "religiousness" of a person with out knowing whom they are?
im sorry my friend, i dont quite follow your reasoning....my point being is that the masses have been brainwashed to not see between the lines, they see the newsclip of a disaster, they see the rescue effort, they see the brightly marked clothing of the aid workers...but they do not see the non aligned people who directly help the needy through financial & other resources who are not religious & go to a special effort to remain anonymous

Religion was created to keep people scared & you to think there is nothing better than something you can't see feel or hear. & by the way they want your money too. Be a leader not a follower
