Is Now An Ok Time To Split Up My Orchids?

Im unsure what type they are, but they have creeping rhizomes and the bulbs have ample root on them. Was just gunna chop the rhizome in the middle so the bulb is seperate, and mount it to a fern with enough sphagnum moss to cover the roots on it and keep it in a corner that gets late avo sun...or I have glass jars?

If its any help for an idea on what the orchids are, the leaf blades are about 7" long, flower spikes are about 10" long, they have previously bloomed in spring with about 8+ flowers on each spike of a pink purple colour.

post some pics, they are probably cymbidium. if so they are just getting ready to flower for you and you should wait till they are done. best time for most orchids is shortly after a flowering period.

These tend to bloom spring and autum? Some of the root tips are starting to turn green with growth. Ive found it quite hard to decifer orchid care info on the net as theres so much! Especially when you throw the fact that they appear miniature in the mix.

Would love to know what genus appears dominate.

Cheers for your consistant help too mate. +rep

without a flower its a bit hard to tell, but those look like cattyleya or dendrobium. either way you are probably ok dividing them now. just make sure each section has some roots. they would benefit from some extra humidity for a few weeks after dividing. orchid care is very unclear on the net. stick with the basic guidelines for the species you are growing and you should do ok. check outhttp://www.orchidboard.com/ those guys will be much more help than me. be careful growing orchids can be habit forming.

Yeah its ok, as long as you have 3 of those stem like things it might even flower.

Well the type of orchid you have makes these small cane like vegetative storage parts, other types make somethig that looks more like a bulb, anyway, you want at least 3 of either in a bunch.
