Is 2 gal too small for a grow?

This is an 8L container , 2 gal. Is that too small for a plant to veg and flower in? It would be good for a smaller size grow yeah? These containers seem good as they are insulated for cold things to stay cold all day and totally light proof.

Are you planning a soil grow? or Hydro?

There's people that talk about flowering a red solo cup. If you are going soil make sure you pop some drainage holes. You could also go hempy bucket style.

Just do a short veg time. I would think that would be fine.

just remember your pot depth will take away some of your res.. like a 5gal bucket with a 6" pot is around 4gal.. so figure your pot depth and air gap, then see what it holds, the less it holds the more you have to fill it. knowing what it holds helps with nute schedule.

Yeah I was planning on hydro in a small netcup. The depth of the cup is only about 2 inch so I shouldnt lose that much space , plus the top of the lid is about 1/2 inch above the top of the actual container. I found a bunch of tiny fish tank type pebbles under the house , it's actually clay so maybe some guy before me was doing hydro also. I've washed them off and they look ok , could I just reuse these as a option to hold the plant in place?

Yeah I suppose you could. I would soak them in H2O2 or bleach though. If this is your first grow do yourself a favor and do as much reading as you can. There are a ton of awesome grows on this website to help give you ideas and watch from others mistakes. My first grow I thought I could throw a clone in a hydro setup and be rocking... wrong, lol. I have learned a ton from this site though. Best of luck dude!!! Keep us updated.

Just keep it simple. A black 5 gallon bucket. If you are worried about water temp just use frozen water bottles.

Just like anything else, you get what you give............
BUT.........
I have gotten a touch over 2 zips from one plant vegged for 2 weeks and finished in a 1 1/2 gal. pot grown under 300w of CFL's before.
Just remember, the more effort you put into your grow, the more it will reward you at the end.

and shock the fuck out of your roots?:dunce:
Nope. No shock, all though my rez is separate from the roots. I put frozen water bottles in my rez throughout summer. I have had slime, root aphids and all kinds of problems because of a warm rez. It's like taking a cold shower after sweating your ass off all day. You have winter coming up

You have winter coming up though so I wouldn't worry about it.

Big difference between dropping it in with roots and with out roots
I can't say one way or the other as to droppping them directly on your root zone. But it is still the same idea. The roots would be warm and then get sprayed with chilled water every 4 mins. Then again I have never dropped anything into my root chamber, well minus a shit load of hydroton, ha, those fucking things have caused so many clogs but that is another story.

I'd still think they would be fine.

To the OP. Figure out what you want your medium to be (soil, perlite:vermiculite mix, coco coir, DWC, etc.) Then we can give you advice. If you don't know the difference between those just ask or try the search function and/or Google. I usually go to google search and type rollitup.org: <insert search here>.

Never had a problem with frozen water bottles in a bucket... its a pretty common thing dwc growers do.
