Inflation on a pizza tip?

I took a little stress reliever and decided to order up a pizza. But now have a weird question. I used to deliver pizzas back in the 93-97 range, and a decent tip then was about $3 and a good tip was about $5.

I remember working there that this really funny old man came up to me one day and asked what amount of money a good tip is. I felt bad at the time, but I finally get what that guy meant with it.

With talking about inflation with NoDrama, I realized just now that I may not have a clue what is a good tip anymore (not that we are talking about pizza tips, but sometimes my mind wanders). And instead of thinking I am actually tipping ok, I could actually be undercutting what they usually get.

So anyone know what a good tip is these days?

The title of the thread was confusing. I don't tip on pizza deliveries that charge a deliver fee, if the pizza takes more than 30 min. That's twice as long as it would take to drve to the restaurant and getting it myself. Theyre already charging the delivery....it's not like they're bringing it out of the kindness of their hearts. And pizzas cost about 3-6 bucks to make, I pay at least 10 for a medium...

When I do tip it's about 15 percent.

As a former server I think it's an insult to leave anything under ten percent. But the pizza driver doesn't have six tables, doesn't get drinks or refills, doesn't even make sure the salad has no cucumber.....

I don't have Pizza delivered to my home, I once almost killed the delivery guy when he just opened the door and let himself in, no knock, no doorbell just opened the door and walked right in. He got a little concerned when confronted by my Sig Sauer P226 to his head. As he explained it he figured we were waiting for him anyway so he figured he could just let himself in. I had a nice talk with the Gen Manager and got a free Pizza and 2 liter of Coke.

The only food delivery people I use are the Chinese food places. They are fast, courteous, and understand the concept of the castle doctrine and private property. for a $30 order they get 5-8 bucks depending on how long it took and if I'm a crabass or not

i delivered pizza last year as a full time job, was taking 1-3 orders at a time that averaged on price anywhere from 20$-60$, the company does not charge for delivery, and i did not get paid by the hour as most waiteresses/waiters do, i got paid 3$/delivery. the deliveries took about half hour to an hour to complete. average tip i got was the rounded up change to 2$ not very often did i ever get a $5 tip. The company also does not pay me for mileage or gas in my own vehicle. working a 8 hr shift i normally walked out with $80-$100 in my pocket, including tips. i would then have to go back and fill up my tank for the next shift, costing me $30-$50. so in reality i didn't make much for my time.

I moved a while back and have only ordered one pizza. It was a medium thick crust pizza that came to almost $30.00 with tip. Not really worth it to pay for the delivery charges + anymore...

the mileage is a big deduction on your taxes. I believe for 2009 it is .55 per mile.

15 percent is the minimum I tip. Usually it's 20 percent.
