Indoor Growing Systems

this is my first setup and i've done quite a bit of research but i still have a few questions and cocerns.
i have a 1000w hps and plan on using it in a 4x4x7h tent.
i have not decided wheter or not to start with soil or to set up a sime hydro system.
-how much ventalation will i need to keep the tent at a reasonable temp?
-i plan on setting up about 16 plants, is this too many or not enough?
-how much less will i yield with soil under an hps light than a dro or aero system?
how much longer will the entire cycle take if i use soil instead of a dro or aero system?

i would really appreciate if someone could answer some of these questions as it would be an enormous help to me and my plants,
thank you

The more power of your lights the more THC will be produced in the budding stage, a good growroom lasts a long time

Safety always been an issue , good equipment increases your crop , especially if you do not have a lot of room to grow it can be worth.

But yes you can grow marihuana on different levels, grow for fun , or grow to get the best smoke of your life ;) I go for the fun of it.
the intensity of your lights has nothing to do with thc production. intense lights just produce denser buds but the thc content is the same. the only type of lighting that *MIGHT* produce more thc content is UVB lighting *i.e. MH lighting without the protective glass on will produce uvb (the glass cover filters out uvb) or using a uvb reptile light. most uvb lights come in "uvb 10.0" but 5.0 is a better spectrum for cannabis to use.

I have a 1000w MH with a Co2 tank and regulator built in a 8x8 box with a ventilated reflector 1000HPS light when flowering, shut down the 1000w MH and hit the 400 on for the mothers, getting a window unit ac before I start to flower with a thermostat hooked up. If you grow why not grow right? I am a newbie and luckily I had the cash to get what I have right now and that is Nextgen 1000w switchable $330 <using the Sunamaster Cool 1000w MH for veg$80>, 8 inch ventilated reflector $120, Blower fan $160, Co2 tank $145 with regulator on a timer $120, fan of course. Advanced Nutrients Grow Part A & B $70. The HPS bulb was $100 the tubing and all other crap was about $100 bux. Electricity about $300 a month. So you got 1 month veg + 2 month budding = $900 Elec + $1225 + Ac unit $300 = $2425 Initial investment for me but when done right in the space I have off ONLY 1 1000w HPS Sunmaster bulb with Co2 I should pull about 10-12k Min or 2-3 pounds I am just guessing. Any input is cool. Here are some pics of where my babies are now. First one is OG Kush, Second one is Ice, Third one is Sensi Skunk,:bigjoint: Fourth one is Ice that my cat decided to eat half of when it was a baby, then I broke it in half just about but it is still here lol. I will try to update in 3 days with more pics. Any advice or comments are welcome.:leaf:

Start a journal for your updates. Good luck!

I see a lot of guys in this thread talking about inexpensive grow room, some as low as $50 to make. I have an entire unfinished basement to use, but am working on a limited budget. My plan was to buy things every two weeks when I get paid until I have enough to get started. If I could make something for $50, I could get started now. Any help is appreciated.

$50 bux gets you a cheap setup that in my opinion isnt worth it. Just spend 200 bux on a 400w switchable enclosed balast like i started with. then you get the light and that is about $300 investment low elec usage low heat all u need is good nutrients and a soil mix and you should be good to go.

That sounds super easy and doable, but what about the actual space that I'm growing in?? Right now, it's just an empty, unfinished basement? Once I get to flowering, which should be semi-fast since I'm starting with clones instead of seeds, how will I worry about complete darkness for the 12 hours without an actual room??

Black plastic tarp. Tape it on the inside of the window to shut out light and your gonna have to go into the room when dark and see if you can see any light leaks. If so fix with tape, paint, plastic. ETC. You can enclose something in a wood structure with drywall around it since drywall is so cheap and you can cut holes in it for vents and so forth.

Here is a few pics 5 days later after I topped the OG Kush and the Bigger Ice plant. First thing I have noticed is that the plants DEFINITELY show accelerated growth after using Co2 just 3 times. I was under a 1000w Sunmaster cool deluxe but this new light puts that light to shame. 1000w Eye Hortilux Super Blue. $180. I have never seen plants react this way to an indoor light. I just can't say enough about it. Anyways I have been giving straight water for 3 days now and they are recovering from the nute burn that started when I tried to push the nutrient levels. One problem I am having is my clones are not rooting very well although I just got a clonign machine and I am going to switch from Clonex gel to another brand called Rootech. I have heard good things about this one so I will give results as I get them.
