Chaz. Do you think 12/12 can have different pheno expressions that 13/11? I was watching a video from last years emerald cup. DJ short was saying 11/13 will show pheno expressions not ever seen in 12/12. Last round I did 13/11. This round is 12/12. Everything is very different. But I took that as recessive traits in coming out in the clones vs seeds.

I do think the pheno expressions can be affected by photoperiod but I don't have any statistical comparisons that would support that. What I would find interesting is a side by side with the same indica dominant genetics and conditions under 420-Pontoon combos splitting them up on 14/10, 13/11 and a 12/12 photoperiod to see what the effects on the pheno's would be. I'll mention it to the boys. They could plumb up the rooms to run this pretty easily I would think.

i have seen different phenotypes from changing light cycles. my
friends and i have ran the same 16-20 strains for 6 years now so
i feel comfortable saying that light cycle brings out different phenos.

i noticed that the vanilluna cutting we ran was the most susceptible
to these changes. i guess that could be explained by its variegation,
variegated plants are referred to as chimeras sometimes. that might
also explain why dj short talked about it, variegation runs in his lines
from what i have seen. if DJ's plants express those traits easier, he
would have observed and reported on it.

By Sunday they should have doubled in size again.....

Day 60 and we're pulling our ladies up. Here's a shot of one of the Bluegill. We've got about 20# worth of fish in the tank now so growing larger plants means we'll have the fish waste to support them nutritionally. The WW and AC/DC we're ready and got pulled about a week ago. Compared to the two Harlequin we just pulled they were not that impressive. However the bud size/quality on the WW was top shelf quality. I'll post pics after they cure. I don't think the genetics were stable on any of these strains. Today we pulled both Harlequin.

Thanks guys. I really didn't know what to expect with weed but I've got to tell you that based on what I've seen this is definitely a doable approach if you do perpetual gardens. As far as the fish and eating them I'm not sure I could do that until I started expanding operations and adding fish. As it is now they see me coming and expect me to play with them as I feed them. It's a trip.

Well there ya go, happy fish=happy plants, good in good out kinda deal lol. I am curious how one plays with fish tho? Laser pointer?

Well every three days they get fed. In between feedings they will get increasingly bold and come nip my fingers. I just leave my hand in the water and slowly move my fingers. Some of the fish actually like getting bumped against my fingers so the purposely swim by and slow down next to my hand. Some ofthe bigger fish like when I come under them and lift them as they swim slowly out of my hand. Kind of lazily while they flip sideways and swim away. Then on feeding day I take the shiners and whip them across the top of the water. It gets the fish to pounce aggressively and they see my hand as the food reward. Anyway that makes it easy to see that all the fish get fed too as the males would out eat the females and they might not get to any of the food. But yes ultimately it all comes down to happy fish = happy plants.

i've had an idea for aquaponics and blooming plants for a couple
years now using a mixed medium instead of rocks. i'm gonna
give it a try with peppers next year, and if it works i will try it with
herb when i can grow again.

15 gal coco chips
12 gal napa part 8822 (crystallized diatomaceous earth)
17 gal hydroton
3 gallons fine verm
1 gal azomite (granular 1/8" pieces, not micronized)
1 gal granite fines
1 gal rock phosphate

my plan was to use 5 gallon pots in flood trays, maybe even use smart
pots if the evaporation doesn't cause the system too much water loss.

this medium is tailored to high CEC using different varieties of nutrient
rich clay, like azomite and rock phosphate. granite is rich in potassium,
but using rock nutrients lowers solubility and should prevent the fish
from being poisoned by excess nutrient drain off. one of my buddies
down south has been an aquarium guy for 20 years and he pulled off
aquaponic weed a few years back, but when we were going over the
pictures of his grow it seemed like the NPK balance was slightly off.

according to scientific literature, using rock phosphate in aquaculture
is supposed to enhance the nutrient content of the rock phosphate, i
guess it acts like a zeolite? absorbs nutrients and holds them, then the
plants can access as they need it.

system design would incorporate a primary growth and secondary growth
area with a sump tank between. water from the fish tank would go to the
primary bed first, be "filtered" by the plants/medium, then drain into the
sump tank. from the sump tank this "cleaned" water would go to the
secondary bed, which would contain plants in the finishing/flush stage.

i have a simple paint diagram drawn up, but RIU won't let me upload a file

There looks to be a substantial side by side project developing on Facebook in a private forum called Just 4 Growers. The trial was set up by a peoples vote for who is going to run the garden. It will be live streamed video and the manufacturers are involved in the entire project from start to finish. They have to agree to it in advance Currently it has Inda-Gro with a Pro420-Pontoon combo, Gavita with a DE 1000, Grobal with the 315CMH and Grow Spectrum with a 440 watt LED panel. Anyone that wants to learn more can hit me, GG or Hyroot up on this. Any of us can invite you in. I had never heard of the Grow SpectrumLED before. I was actually hoping that Apache might want to run the 660 in this? Should be a hell of a run for whoever wins the vote.
