In Positive Economic Sign, Republicans Starting to Say Obama Wasn’t Born in US Again

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) – In what some experts are calling a strong indicator of improvement in the economy, Republicans in recent weeks have begun renewing their claims that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States. While most economists agree that any significant improvement in the US economy is generally accompanied by an uptick in GOP questions about Mr. Obama’s place of birth, there is now an econometric tool for measuring the increase in those claims: the so-called S & P Birther Index. The Birther Index, established in 2008, measures the occurrences of such words as “birth certificate,” “Kenya,” and “wasn’t born here” in Republican statements about the President, and has proven to be a surprisingly reliable tool for tracking improvements in the economy.Harland Dorinson, the economist who devised the S & P Birther Index, said that as the economy recovers the index also shows a strong surge in statements questioning the President’s Christianity.“As unemployment started going down, we saw an increase in references to Mr. Obama being a Muslim,” he said. “This is generally a very bullish sign for the economy.”But Mr. Dorinson was quick to add that while the surge in references to Mr. Obama being “an Islamic socialist born in a mud-hut in Nairobi” is encouraging, the economy is not out of the woods yet.“We won’t be fully in a recovery until the Republicans start calling him a Wiccan,” he said. “And if they start saying he’s a Satanist who practices human sacrifice and drinks the blood of children, then it’ll be time to pop open the champagne.”

i love andy borowitz.

The story is interesting although in the scheme of things no biggie for me except for being able to laugh if it were a scam. If true and he gets dumped another big government person will take his place.

I think it's time we revisit that amendment anyway. My little brother came while mom and dad were driving back from Niagra. Seems odd that he can't be president on a technicality like that. I don't care where Obama was born, it shouldn't matter. We may be depriving ourselves of a true rock star of a president whose family moved here when he was 2.

Are we really that arrogant as a country to think because somebody was born on this soil over here they are more qualified than someone born on that soil over there?

You are right, we should let someone from Iran be our leader. I am sure they will have the USA best interest at heart.

FYI its not in an amendment, its in the Constitution.

I wouldnt care if he were a russian muslim transvestite who cross dressed, if he did the things I wanted him to do as president. I do get tired of the not a citizen crap. And the muslim accusations as they have no bearing on the issues. Sheeple eat that crap up like a freight train coming down a mountain.

Amazing how they have so much time on our dime to toss about rhetoric instead of working on important stuff that could benefit Americans. All of our problems must be solved already. Nothing left to do on Capitol Hill but cast dispersions

How was an American defined back when the Constitution was written? And how was anyone eligible for election considering weren't the "Founding Fathers" immigrants in the US?

Genuine questions from curiosity.

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
Hopefully that answers it.

meh, was talking about the 14th but yes you are right, article 2.

you have to understand the reason why though, They didn't want foreign money coming here and setting up a monarchy. Our foundation was strongly built on this passion for not allowing another King George in our future.

If someone with Gandhi's enlightenment, Jefferson's foresight, Washington's leadership, Edison's ingenuity, Einstein's intelligence moved here at 1 day old after being born in Iran I say so? Damnit, if only his mother had come here a day earlier.....

And while we are at it, being born here shouldn't automatically make you a citizen, that's outdated too. It was for the benefit of the freed slaves but now it's for the benefit of anyone who doesn't get caught.
