So I've been told not to be blunt about wanting a prescription. What are your tips for that first talk with your doctor?

Google The Healing Center anchorage. He's a traveling doctor and is the only one I found in AK that will hook you up. He moves between Fairbanks, anchorage, Kenai and seward. Cost 250 and you will get your card in a few weeks. Hope this helps.

Is that where you got yours from ?
I went to their website & it makes no mention of MMJ Rec.
What are the exact steps one needs to take for a card ?

The reason I ask is that I will have to sked a trip to Anchortown to have it done & I don't want to "not bring" an important piece of the puzzle.

Oh, and welcome to RIU.
And have a great big old bitchslap of Rep.

The Healing Center- 907-717-9966 From what I remember all i needed to bring was my AK drivers license/ID and If im not mistaken its cheaper if you bring your own medical records. If you dont have them the doctor will still give you your recommendation. Then they give you the packet to fill out, it gives clear details on how to send it of to the office of Vital Statistics in Juneau. Its like a 25.00 filing fee and I got my card in a few weeks. Just a heads up though that doctor is a fucking QUACK lol. However he gave me the recommendation I needed to get my card.

Help with getting your card: (there are no "prescriptions" to be had. Its a "recommendation" to use cannabis for a debilitating condition)
First of all, come to grips with the truth. You do not need to be sick, dieing, or disabled to benefit from cannabis as a medication; anyone who understands medicine has the ability to understand that fact. Cannabis has some very basic and well known side effects that most everyone familiar with cannabis use, is aware of including your doctor. To name the most commonly recognized and stereotyped "side effects" are hunger, thirst, and relaxation. ("munchies", "cotton mouth", and "stoned"). Those effects alone, are useful and why I consider the plant to be the most effective tool for healing. When ill, injured, recovering, etc. the body needs sustenance, hydration, and rest no matter what the case. This to most advocates, means that despite what the issues are, cannabis can be of help. For Alaskans seeking an herbal alternative, it is true that there is a requirement to obtain a doctor recommendation. The requirements for the doctor however, are to agree that cannabis "Could" be useful in treating XXX - debilitating conditions of which cause persistent pain or spasm.. Well, thats most everything. Dehydration can cause spasm, and most any injury can cause pain. In conversation, after explaining my understanding of how cannabis effects EVERYONE, I posed the question to my doctor "Could you disagree that cannabis could NOT be useful in alleviating symptoms such as those that are directly effected by the effects mentioned?". The answer was "no". Its impossible to deny.
If you are worried about the initial visit, bring articles, studies, testimonials, etc. giving information to the doctor that he/she may not have knowledge of, or wouldn't seek on their own. Let them review it over some time, and get back with them. You may learn in that first meeting that your doctor agrees, however if not is always helpful to educate those whom help others. If one doctor fails to agree to help you, seek another.
