I'm relatively upbeat about Chinese lights. I think they can be a good choice for someone unwilling (unable) to invest in a better quality light with more efficient chips *as long as they understand the light's shortcomings*. But, a 300w LED is going to be about 200w actual. If your brother got 392 grams that's 2g per watt. From a Chinese light.

I'm sure he got good results, perhaps in the range of 1g/w. But, 2g/w sounds like some fish I've caught. :)

Which light did he use? It's good to know which ones produce well.

To follow up on that suggestion, I distilled what I learned from captainmorgan's thread about those lights here. (<<link) You can get up to speed quickly with that. Also a lot of ideas about how to mount/aim the lights depending on circumstances.

I think they're better suited for smaller plants like autos or scroged/mainlined photos. If you grow tall plants I think an A51 with better top-down penetration would be better. Either way, you wouldn't be able to buy an A51 nor enough Cree "lightbulbs" for $200.

300w visper it was called lolol he said he had like a current meter or somthing when pluged in drew 283watts he was saying

im running 2 180w ufo leds but i just started my seeds about 3 dayz ago on day 3 they are looking not half bad

I'm sure they'll turn out well. I grow an autoflower under a chinese (Blackstar) 135w (85w actual) UFO in a 2x2x4' tall space. I got over 1g/w the last couple grows. It was underpowered for that space. I added four Cree "lightbulbs" from Home Depot to bring me to about 31w/sq ft. I'm seeing a difference in bud density now. I'm hoping for about 140g this time.

The cree 6.5w bulbs are $4ish at my HD, so $200 should be plenty of light for 2 small indicas imo.......Personally in his dilemma($$$) I would DIY cxa cob no question...

Just to clarify (that I'm not talking about a fish I caught), I got 100-105g off the 135w (85w actual) Blackstar. (Final dry weight was 96g. I kept the airbuds separate. I estimate 4-9g of air buds.). When I said 140g, I was talking about after I added four 9.5w Cree "lightbulbs". That's 123w actual. 140g seems doable.

I knew I was under powered the last couple grows with that UFO. I was fighting a soil acidity problem which turned out to be as simple as over feeding. I didn't want to increase the light until I fixed that. After adding the four Crees the buds are much denser like when I ran 200w of T5ho and supplemental CFL.

ok so you guys talked me into the CXA3070.... few more questions please... I want the 3000K AB for flower correct? and how many CXA3070 do I need to replace 4000 watt HPS in a 10' x 10' and what wattage do I run each LED at? I'd like it if they could out yield my 4000 watt HPS...

GW KAGHB1.EM-RSRU-30H3 would be my choice, but i am probably no better at picking than you.

My logic, the choice between S13 and S19 series was easy, the S13 seems more efficient.

Then i chose the 3000k unit, because that is what my cree is.

the max current for the Osram Soleriq-Sxx Series is 1.4 amps(...S19).

Thank you, anyone know of someone that did a diy with the osram s19?

I ordered 8. Still need to do more research before buying drivers.

When i have the drivers ill start sourcing heat sinks and think about mechanical design itself.

And just so you guys know, I learned more from the led section of this site than from any other place on this forum and off.

I have been growing under fluorescent and have decided to give leds a try.I ordered an inexpensive led grow light http://www.ebay.com/itm/251617231138?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT I am DIYer and have tried using warm white cobs with 6500k fluorescent and it seemed to work pretty well.I find the ideal of using warm white leds with a few 660nm and some 440nm and 460nm leds to give a broader spectrum of blue light very attractive and may modify this light in the future after 1 or 2 test grows to establish a reference.my question is: I have been reading that leds cause cal/mag deficiency and was curious if this occurs when using just white leds.my soil contains dolomite and oyster shell lime and a little bone meal. I use tap water which contains some minerals and has a ph of 7. my runoff shows a ph of 6.8. should I supplement with molasses and Epson salts? will this raise my ph? many here have been growing with leds for a long time and several DIYers use just warm white Crees any input would be greatly appreciated thank you
