Hey, everyone. I'm new to this site as I'm doing some serious research, Cause I'm highly interested in treating my symptoms organically rather than with pharmaceuticals! I used to smoke as a teen but started having serious panic attacks so I gave it up. I have severe anxiety and most people say indica is great for that but as I think back the more relaxed I was the more panic attacks I would have. I'm aware that the more CBD the better. So any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated! & some good strains as well.

I recommend a glass 1 hitter (which have really small bowls). Smoke indica what dosen't have the highest THC content out of it and see how you feel

I am not a Doctor this is just an opinion.

Since you suffer from severe anxiety, and are prone to panic attacks, don't do any type of cannabis outside your comfort zone. Maybe while watching a flick with a frend or two, someplace you feel safe.

Don't smoke a whole joint by yourself, just a puff or two, chill for 10 minutes and see how you feel.
Then you can either, not toke anymore because it isn't for you, or smoke more and get buzzed.

You might also try edibles (small doses), it's a different type of high.

Good luck.

I kid i kid.

Just remember every bud is different. It will affect you different deoending on your chemistry. Start slow and find what works for you.

You may need to build somewhatof a tolerance to really enjoy self madicating... especualky if prone to anxeity.

Some sativas are good for anxiety but keyword here is *some*

I believe your looking for a cbn strain its more sedative. You need a high cbn strain unfortunately I don't know of any tested strains high in cbn. I have one that might work but its untested. Its smooth has a sweet smell and is a relaxing mellow high.

I can't remember where or who exactly, but while seed shopping i've seen strains advertised as being bred for high CBD.

I would also suggest not a joint, but a small/moderate glass pipe. Load a bowl, take ONE good green hit, and wait about 10-15 minutes to gauge the "launch trajectory." If you feel so inclined, go ahead and take a second, but be warned: good weed hits the uninitiated pretty hard, and if you've got a bowl full of good green, 2 hits is going to be plenty the first time... possibly even a bit more than you were expecting. Try to burn the smallest possible area of the bowl, instead of torching the whole thing.

I've got ~20 years of semi-regular toker experience, and recently ended a 23 month total abstinence period... i took One hit from some really good bud, and that was enough. By the time i was again forced to enter another indefinite lapse, about a month ago, 3 hits was still plenty... probably a little more than "plenty," actually.

And, according to the accounts i've read, edibles should be reserved for experienced cannabis users. Someone who gets blowed off one good hit, is going to be overwhelmed by the intensity of edibles (unless they are an uncommonly dilute recipe).

Let's put it this way, I smoke all day every day, If I took a tolerance break for 2 weeks, It doesn't matter what strain I smoke or how little I smoke, I'm going to be high as eff and get that paranoid feeling again, until I build my tolerance back up. So, Get some weak ass weed that's not to strong and as suggested, start slow.

I know you said cannabis gives you anxiety but is that main symptoms you are trying to treat or the side effects you are worried about?

I use cannabis mainly for pain and muscle tension. But I also have anxiety and used to be on pills for all of it. Some strains will make me a lil anxious, like a strong haze. But for the most part smoking all the time helps my anxiety and stress as well as my pain issues and a nice sativa dom or some dabs really help with motivation and ADD.

It may not effect you the same way as when you were younger btw. Most of the time, a bad experience from cannabis(smoke, edible, whatever) is more to do with your own issues than what the medicine is doing to you. I know it seems a lil obvious to say that but it's important to keep in mind. It's not the weed that is making you anxious, it's yourself. We used to call it a "freak out", and if you just calm yourself you can enjoy the effects.

But if it used to give you panic attacks DO NOT start with edibles, lol. Many first timers have really bad experiences from accidentally taking too high of a dose. It also seems to cause more anxiety when made with concentrates rather than infusing with flower. I often tell people to relax, focus on a movie or something, and "ride the waves", don't fight it.

PS> I might suggest you try a Volcano vaporizer. I suggest the volcano specifically because it gives you immense control over all aspects of medicating. I don't actually use mine any more personally but it was the ONLY method my step mom could tolerate other than topical. Having a bag of consistent vapor at the temp that works best for you that also gives you perfect control over the size of your hit and doesn't waste. It's perfect for the medicating noob! lol.

Also yea... Tolerance is a bitch... You could always bite the bullet and build it fast so you can medicate without undesired side effects...

Get yourself high as hell every day, after a week or so you'll notice the tolerance.

I have major panic and anxiety, actually stopped smoking for awhile because it made it worse. This was because I was in Illinois and really couldn't choose your strain, until I grew my own....regardless, when I got to the west coast and decided to try marijuana again for my issues all the "bud tenders" at dispensaries kept preaching INDICA for anxiety....that threw me off, gave me major bad trip panic attacks:) until someone overheard me talking about the empty feeling in my chest and constant worry, guilt etc...and she recommended "anything haze" I was so scared of sativas I never even tried anything like jack herer (first one that melted my anxiety) I'm also recovering alcoholic so it's hard to feel calm. That started a fantastic journey I'm still on discovering which strains do what for all my ailments. Lately pure landrace sativa "durban poison" is my go to anti-anxiety anti-depressant. Indica varieties like hashplant, hindu kush really do calm my racing mind which definitely helps anxiety. All the best to you...And a good friend referred "new chapter, holy basil" that brand specific...internet search it, I was surprised. I'm gonna give it a shot.

That is really weird that sativas help your anxiety. Its sort of the opposite for me, esp with some crazy haze, seems like the stronger the haze flavor the more anxious I feel, lol.

Also... It's actually the THC which can induce anxiety. And it's the presence of Myrcene in indica dominant strains that induces the more sedative effect, and reduces the cerebral effects compared to a sativa dominant which have lower levels of Myrcene. It's possible your west vs east thc tolerance just needed time to adjust. The thc content and terps are WAY better out this way, hehe.

This old herb grower dude once told me the anxiety is associated with the chlorophyll in the pot try hash
That's why, my old lady puffs the flower while I smoke bubble hash because of my anxiety. I think the bubble hash may hold more cbd also creating the calmness, just guessing.

Personally for myself if i'm already feeling anxious or having an anxiety attack a good 100% indica will do the job nicely, if I want to prevent getting anxious I'll usually smoke a hybrid. As well as mellowing you out it kind of lifts your mood too and you don't find yourself worrying about anything.

Thank you all for your advice, I greatly appreciate it! I'm really thinking this will be one of those things I need to figure out on my own because everyone is different and effected differently. I haven't started experimenting yet cause I'm still on my medication. And I'm looking to only medicate with cannabis! I have also realized I need more of a euphoric strain than a relaxing strain cause couch lock gives me horrible anxiety as well. I will be sure to share and let you all know my new experiences.
