 I have had to deal with the frustration of a strain of "super-mites" that could live thru a "bunker-buster" bomb, even.... I am sure! Here are some things we have done to get rid of these things: neem oil, (that smells good, and fries my plants, really well, and yes, we shut off the lights, first) completely dipping clones in neem oil, and then pyrithens mixture, Dr. Doom spray, safer soap, so many pyrithens bombs... like at least 30, over the last 8 years, safer soap, lady bugs.... they all died... preymathises, a few times... once they hatched in my kitchen, and we had thousands of preymathises all up my vaulted ceilings... predator mites.... growing enough to vacuum seal herb and freeze, and smoke on that for 5 years, bongsmiliewhile completely replacing all hydro equipment... bombing and spraying with every kind of nasty pesticide, before moving anything at all, in.... going to the bay area and buying new clones.... being so careful, when coming in from outside... something like going in for surgery.... with the hand washing... and all... (yes we are plagued, outside, with these lil bastards, too...) Like so over the top, careful.... guess what? WE HAVE SPIDER MITES AGAIN!!!!! In the room and outside! They devastated our veggie garden, this summer... we used preymanthises, lady bugs, predator mites, with no luck... then we used seven, and other chemies that were ok for the veggie garden.... it wasn't like we were getting any veggies off it anyway.... I just want some kind of revenge, by now! We bought our tomatoes so I could can salsa... forget about growing them! I went to college and majored in ornamental horticulture.... and I am thinking about saving myself a whole lot of headaches and buying my herb.... or maybe selling my dream house, and moving, just to get away from these mites, and enjoy gardening again! Did you ever win the war against the lilt bastards?
You could have saved a lot time by just typing in "I live in the woods in (Santa Cruz, Gurnvill, ECT) so I've got mites. :-?

I tried all kinds of things to kill the buggers but because you need to kill multiple generations you need something systemic like Avid.

Yes it is a chemical and yes it can be dangerous if you don't know how to use it but it is not rocket science. I am an organic grower but when it comes to mites its total destruction time.

here is the info sheet

http://www.engageagro.com/media/pdf/label/avid_label_english.pdf

I have used it for 5 years and have had no ill effects. After a couple of weeks it's gone and it is safe for food products. It was invented at U of Gelph in Canada. You can order on line in the USA or go to a hortacultur store.

GET THE INFO SHEET AND READ IT! BEFORE USING.

Good luck.

If you are scrog like me than the only thing hat will work are not pest strips. I had mites that I thought could fucking live through a nuke! Well it took 3 weeks but not one in site. I did everything and there was to do, and nothing worked but the strips. I have about a 40 to 50 plant system. Good luck!

No pest strips. Kills the mites and the grower... NICE! Says right on the side of it not for use near food products.
Didn't know avid was for use on greenhouse plants in Canada, good to know. Is it legal to use on food crops in the U.S.?

Another newer version of Avid is Floramite. The area where I live is infested with spider mites. It is hot, dry and any plant that is susceptible will get infected. I tried most of the remedies discussed here. Neem oil, nicotine, no pest strips, the whole gamut. None of them provided the 100% kill that is needed to get rid of the little bastards. I finally broke down and bought the Floramite. At the time it was only available in 32oz size for $300. It only take 1/4 tsp per gallon to do the trick so I have enough to last my lifetime since that bottle of Floramite will give me 1280 gallons of spray. It kills all the mites including the eggs! Most shops will break the bottles down so you can buy an 1oz or 2 and save some $$.

I was constantly fighting the mites, they were damaging the plants and causing stress. My plants were not getting to the quality level due to the infestation. Since I bought the Floramite no problem, a good thorough spray application, especially the bottom of the leaves, and your problem is gone.

I have had plants get re-infected occasionally, mostly outdoor grows, inside one treatment usually does it for the entire grow. The mites don't develop an immunity so the kill rate stays high.

If you can get over the cost, Floramite will answer your prayers.

Good Luck, and always read the instructions. WB

Yeah, I'm dying laughing from this quote...not sure why, as I too have lost crops from them (at least the harvest was wothless)...they are no joke, and worst of all, once they "drain" a plant, even if you clone it and grow it might-free, it will never grow well again.

I am sold on the Floramite...I don't care what it costs (if you've ever lost a crop before, you will not question the cost of a product that will do the job). Great info.

I have heard that floromite is pretty good but your not really supposed to use them in flower because of the half life of the chemical or some shit I dont remember... I dont want anyone gettin sick from my meds!!! I guess I will have to brew up some nicotine tea but shit man If the bomb wont kill em I dont know what will... it sucks because I still have five weeks left in my cycle and If I cant keep em at bay they are going to take over my shit LOL these mites in norcal are redic!!

When I used to live down south you could spray them one time with neem and they were goners.. if you bombed your room you could throw a clone in there with 100 mites on there and they would die from the residue lol I guess they breed em bad up here haha
Dude I feel you. I am in Nor Cal too... Horrible mites this year on two of my Blueberry x Northern Lights. The skunks they really didn't bother with. Strange because They were right next to each other.

I actually used a mild solution of dish soap. 1 tsp. of Dawn to about 8-10 oz. of water. Worked wonders! Didn't harm the flowers at all.

I just know what you mean about the mites. It's the damn heat up here!

Zero Tolerance Pesticide by Ed Rosenthal is also a remedy that kills spider mites and their eggs, turning them black and making them incapable of hatching. Even most "commercial organic" veggie growers will share they rotate a variety of remedies to deal with pests which easily develop immunity to constantly used remedies. Avid & Florarmite are NOT safe for kids, pets or anything you will eat or smoke! Period! For a person with any immune system disease or issue, these products can be devastating. Even after drying & curing. Email me for more info on Zero Tolerance Pesticide and spider mites.

Had very much a similiar problem...once you get these lil shitz a time or two it can really break your heart.Lady bugs you cant go wrong with.
With every new grow, I introduce a community of them, it also brings much life into the gardens. One particular grow last year, HUGE problem....That grow was not under my direct care, and things got a
little out of control, QUICK.Introduced them into the room, and within a week, during flowering, they had virtually had it cleared out.Dont be afraid to put a whole squad in there, you have to mist every now and then so they have a drink too...they are truly hard little workers and huge eaters...

try with 2, 3 ciggars, macerate the tabbaco from them in 500 ml watter, leave 3 days, after that remove the tabbaco and you can use to spray your plants and surroundings. it'a a very good solution!!! if you have natural tabbaco, better to choose this

Go to the hardware store and get a Hotshot no-pest strip!!! They cost about $8 bucks and work like a charm! PROMISE! And I'm not talking about a sticky strip this is a strip that hangs up that emits an insecticide.

Get a mesh net put 4+ ladybugs in the net and over your plant so they don't A) Fly aways or B) Die by flying ino your light.

EDIT: By mesh net I mean like the thin mosquito ones you can get in any camping section.

I brought in 2 spotted spider mites on some clones and I tried everything under the sun to rid these bastards

SNS-217, NEEM, DR DOOM FOGGERS, AVID and many others, these bugs just don't want to die and stay gone.

SMK worked the best for me by far, plus its natural which is def a bonus

Just google smk spider mite killer, I believe its spidermitekiller.net

Good Luck!

basically someone can either have 3 spidermites on there plant and be harvesting the next day. so it dosnt even matter... or there plants can be caked and half eaten away by thousands to millions of mites.. so you want to treat with any pesticide accordingly.. im using azamax right now and its definetley suppressing them at the very least.. but honestly ive been using light applications since i bought the 22 dollar 4 ounce bottle a little over a week ago,. this is my second bottle i knocked down fungas gnats on 2 out of 3 plants.., I HAVE FOUND that once u have mites you may not be able to get rid of 100 percent of them through the whole grow cycle .. u cant very well spray everyday into late flower risking mold.. even just outside on a chilly night.. Ide keep the spraying very light and only do it if u have to as a last resort.. Azamax can also be applyed as a soil drench ive done a fair amount of that. I had mites on my outdoor sativa. about 20 or so of them.. some adults and babys.. i azamaxed that area very thouroughly with a medium to light strength solution..I like to use this product more frequently with lighter doses then reccomended.. even and all over coverage of the leaves when foliar spraying is very important too. i spray underside the leaves more then the tops but i spray the tops as well..I dont know much about home made solutions. tobacco tea sounds great if it actually works..Kinda seems to me like its probably harsh as fuck on a plant.. Im still doing a lot of testing on this azmax product but so far it hasnt burned my plants even once. and ive used it in a heavy application a few times.. im concerned that i still see some mite activity but its defientely minimal.. usually outside this time of year my plants get engulfed in mites about 30 percent of the way through flower..they could be getting a tiny bit resistent to the azamax but i dont think they will be resistant if i double the dosage on them lol.. my indoor /outdoor plant is on about the beggining of week 5 of flower. buds are thickening up a bit now..I already suppresed the mites really well with this azamax lets see if i can make it through flower when the mites hit the hardest. if i get a couple of mites into the 2 week flush period then i may give them a very light foiliar spray of axamax.. yes right on the bud.. i dont give a fuck the stuff is practically organic.. its obviously safer then floramite or anything heavy like that.. this is a neem based product. the risidual is basically more like 1 week. and thats my hydro shop guys opinion and mine as well so I will be applying about once a week
