Hydro VS Soil tiny clone experiment results

In Oct I built a cloner and was messing around without taking much off the plant to test it out. They rooted, I had some room so I just went with it to see what would happen (hey, noobs do stuff like that). Both "clones" started out at about 3 inches tall and put directly in my flower area under 400 watt HPS.

Same nutes (maxi bloom)
Same distance to light. I raised the container of the shorter one to maintain the same distance to light as they grew.
Same strain
Same mother
Rooted same day
Both in 5 gallon buckets (hydro was DWC)
I don't recall the exact flower time but it was somewhere near 70 days.

I know it's silly but I figured I'd post this for others that are intimidated or interested in hydro and want to see a side by side comparison to help motivate them.

Obviously the soil plant (if you can call it that) is on the right.

What a waste of electricity.

400w x 12 hours a day x 70 days = 336kw/hr x .14 per kw/hr = $47

Hydro totally kicked soils ass though both look to be grown incorrectly.

I think you are over thinking things. This was in an area with 30+ other plants of various kinds and lights were already on. These were just ancillary and were going to be thrown away after testing out the cloner. I just decided to experiment so I could see for myself the difference and decided to share here. I hear a lot about soil vs hydro but rarely see a side by side. It's not like I went out and bought a tent, light, lab coat etc to try this out.

It's easy to tell soil growers that hydro has "vigorous growth", "grows faster" etc but I wanted to show, visually, side by side because I have not seen any posts where a comparison is shown.

It's a causal display.... Fuck man, if I knew I needed a sanitized laboratory and a PHD I wouldn't have fucking bothered posting.

Well I for one found it great! Have always been told and formed the opinion myself that hydro is awsome but it is actually nice to see the difference myself... nice one mate!

Thanks, I just thought I would throw it out here. Before I tried hydro I never had any visual comparisons(other than tomatoes on youtube), all verbal or text. Obviously it would have been better to start two of the same strain from seed side by side and give them proper veg time etc but I was just playing around, never intended to formally showcase anything at all.
Take care

I've just invested in a pretty awsome rdwc system! I actually started in hydro, of course made a lot of mistakes but was a great learning curve and I'm at the point where my results are improving each time. So for me at least, it's nice to see the difference which is by any ones standards a huge difference!

Alright great to hear and I bet you'll have a great time and great harvests with the new system!

Awesome write up! Ive been doing dwc for 3 grows now and ive never grown in soil
Thanks, thread kind of old but before I posted I looked and looked at various sites for a real side by side with pics. I didn't find anything so I posted.

The difference other than growth, from my experience, is with soil the buds on a lot of strains are super hard and dense, they also have an earthy taste. I like those qualities but I do find soil kind of boring and of course you don't get the kind of yields you do with hydro.
