i use a clear bucket and i get to see the root growth!!! its awesome! here is a pick at 4 weeks from seeding. its my girst grow so i have made a couple mistakes (nute burn) but all in all i think i am doing fine. i have two hallide bulbs on it and it has been lst'd. plz help me if you think there is anything i can do diferent or should know. thank all and good smokin.
Light in your reservoir will promote algae growth and bacteria. It's a huge promoter of root rot. I light proof my tanks now after my plants got the rot.

Dude, my advise on a clear rez, is if you want to be able to see your roots, just make sure you have someway to keep the light out when your not looking at them.

Light in your rez is not a good idea. Algae are plants too, and because of that the algae will consume the food that would other wise be used by your plant.

for sure. i just have it sitting in another bucket thats black its working pretty well thus far... but i am new so i will change it up you all def have more experience

Hygrozyme. Keep the bucket chilly and add 10 ml. of the malt-smelling stuff per gallon water. My ebb/flow tray had a similar problem last summer, Hygrozyme digested the weak roots and grew me some nice femurs.

Do you have any recommendations for Hydro nutes?

...I've used a couple different line of products. "Plantlife products" (Bada Bing, Bada Bang, Bada Bloom) and General Hydroponics.
...what I found out is, all of the N-P-K values are about the same, and it looks like General Hydroponics set the standard, so, I use GH, and I use the Lucas Formula feeding strategy. I only change out my res. inbetween veg and bloom, then flush. If your interested in knowing more about it, here's the link >>> https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/4387-lucas-formula.html

The way to have really white roots IMO is to use chemical ferts/Non-organic, have a ton of oxygen at the root zone, have no light leaks, have temps below 70 or add Zone or H2O2. Nail each one of those things individually in your res and your roots should be pearl white. If your running anything organic your usually going to have a brown tint to your roots but that doesn't mean that they are not healthy. For me I have found that when there are more broken/dead roots than normal in my res there is an issue I need to fix, also when the "fuzzy" parts of my roots has slime on them.
