I was just wondering what are some things that can be done to insure a nice harvest outdoors.

I have been trying to grow for several years now and each time I have tried I never seem to get more then a half oz per plant at about 4ft tall.

I have seen others get them up to 12ft and pull a pound off one.

I had one in the woods I just pulled I believe the strain was cat/dog however hardly any bud on it and only 3-4 ft tall.

Do I need to dig bigger holes??? I dug 2 at about 3ft d by 3ft wide last year and reused that same soil which was mg moisture mixed with alil compost .

what are some things that I could do to ensure a nice big harvest of good strong buds???.

I live in the northeast and prefer stronger indica varieties.

Type of soil nutes strain seed clone ect what will work well.

Indicas don't usually grow too tall if I'm not mistaking the average around 5-6ft outdoors, but most commonly you'll get the 3 to 4 ft's tho I know my friend is outdoors and his purple is right at 5ft I don't think he's gonna hit a pound but I know she gonna be a heavy producer. I think his holes are dug about 4 1/2 ft not sure how wide, he mixes his own soil and does a lot of his organic ferts in house. I would get into composting if I were you, since your outdoors. I make my own fish emulsion and my plants absolutely love it I tell I big difference in the plants I use it on and the ones I don't. How much light are you getting?

Fish emulsion may not do much for your plants.
What you want is Fish Hydrolysate.

Liquid fish fertilizers come in different forms and qualities. Most are fish emulsion fertilizer products, which means that the important oils, amino acids, vitamins, hormones, and enzymes have been been either separated for use in different products or killed in the high temperature manufacturing process. The result is generally a lower quality product with a lower nutrient content than a hydrolysate.

A fish hydrolysate fertilizer (which is what this product is - it's not a fish emulsion) means that fish are enzymatically cold pressed, keeping the oils, amino acids, vitamins, hormones, and enzymes in the product. The result is a nutrient-rich product that has many trace minerals and other benefits.

idk im not really sure how much light it gets I know I had to deal with slug problems. whats funny is that at first the other clone I had which was blocked more from light was doing good at first after transplant then went to shit and the one with the holes in the leaves started taking off.

im not sure about the light but I wanna say 8 hours it can get. whats weirder is that the guy who gave me the clone had one going outside too and he used some 14-10-12 bloom shit and some promix mixed up someone gave him and he hardly ever watered just wit nutes and his buds where triple the size of what I had on my plant assuming the same strain.

From what the guy said his was cat/dawg too. however his buds looked fluffy kinda and leafy barely any hair development. mine on the other hand appears to have smaller buds made up of more hairs then leaf.

The guy also topped 2 times. Don't know if that has any effect on an indica I was told not to hack up an indica but you can remove a bunch of fan leaves with indica and they will grow back triple or double the leaves.

idk I mean ive tried haze/nl in a pot out in the same area with ff ocean forest soil and got close to a half but still hardly anything to brag about

Genetics, size of your holes, amount of sunlight per day, amount of nutrients readily available for the plant, amount of water the plants receives all play a factor in getting huge plants and yeilds. I'd say though the size of your holes (root space), sunlight, water and nutrients are the most important.
