How to find/form a co-op?

Hello patient's! Here's the breakdown of the situation, one that I feel many patients can relate and understand with.

A couple of year's ago I moved to a property that was comfortable with our license Cannabis use as long as no growing took place. It is understandable for the property owner to prefer that cannabis is not grown upon his property but it still makes things difficult. I know of a few patient's who are in the same boat as I am for as long if not longer than I have been and we're all fed up. We're legitimate medical user's and provider's and all of us feel paying street rate or higher at dispensaries for Medical Cannabis is gross abuse of the principle of the system. I can understand $325 an ounce for a recreational drug sure but that is recreation, honest medicinal use should not used as a major profit point in my humble opinion. And if one is going to be taxing to such a state then one should just be honest and not try to put "medicinal" into it and just call it a capitalist marijuana supplier instead of a medical dispensary... And yes I realize the economics of it as many top shelf grower's do not wish to donate their top grade for any less than $2800 to $3200 on the pound. Mainly due the to fact they are still taking enormous risk to supply the medication unless it is in excess from a legal grow for personal medical use. But it still comes down to the principle risk or not taxing sick people for being in pain just to increase capital gain's is highly unethical personally.

So my closing thoughts are; how does one find or a form a co-op/coalition in Washington State? What are the breakdown's of it? The law's can be tricky and I like to be sure I have the best understanding I can. I used to be much more familiar with the exact wording of the law, heck I remember when Gregoire snuffed an initiative by the voters for co-op's. But it has been a while, so any information provided is appreciated.

Ps. I am surprised there isn't a co-op finder system like the dispensary finder's on the web...

I agree with you that medical people sholdn't be paying 320 an oz, and they don't! You can find 220 oz's of good meds all day long. Going through dispensaries is a ripoff I never deal with them as a grower or as a paitient! I have mabe gone to a dispensary 2-4 times in 4 years! What you can also do is find 1 person that can grow or owns their house and you can do a collective grow at their place and have 45 plants. You will need 3+ people with medical cards. All of you guys designate one person ,hopefully the owner of the house, as your provider and you will have a collective grow. If it were me I would do it with 5 legal card holders, I think if you just do three the cops would get pissed knowing you are right on the edge with your limit! Be smart and respect the police and they will do the same with you! If you are a dick and you start to tell them how to do their job or how well you know your rights they wil probably cuff your dumb ass up! I grow for a few people that have cards and really bad shit going on with them and I never go over 30 plants. I just don't need to and running 30 soil plants does become a job! If you are looking to make a lot of money growing Medical and staying legal you may want to look at a different way to make your money.

Unless you go straight up illegal in selling it to whoever has money and also growing more than your limit! And I am not saying there is anything wrong with that at all! Just not worth the risk for me. people don't figure in the cost of growing correctly, there are alot of costs in growing that will just nickle and dime ya, and also you have to be able to figure in losses! You will have losses due to hermie you didn't catch, PH issues, you may get a mold problem, mites...... so on and so on! It is fun and if you love growing weed you will be happy but don't think you are going to be scar face doing this shit!

Check THClist.com or net or something like that just google it. If you sign up you can check the classifieds. There are MMJ growers on there that have grown to much medicine for themselves and are willing to take donations to cover growing costs. All are MMJ card holders and are happy to show you their papers when you meet! Just an FYI to help you obtain some good afordable meds! ;)

Very very very helpful post! Thank you, some very good points and quite informative. You have given me some points to work from now, much appreciated.

Yes I used to get top shelf for around $180-$220 but when my wife and I moved to be closer to her family I lost all my connects in the... aherm... "market". And I have no desire to try to find myself an illegal drug dealer, hence why I have been paying these insane dispensary prices.

Thank you for the economic sustainability note, yes I remember small expenses adding up when I was growing. But if a co-op is formed my wife and I at least will not be looking to unload any of it, especially for a profit. Risk to gain for growing Cannabis and selling it on the illegal market's I just don't find personally worth it. And I hope to find others whom have the same sentiment, just going for a better quality of life because there are other way's to make a buck.

I have seen a few websites much like THCList but I have never been to that particular site, I will be sure to check it out thank you for the recommendation. I have also been looking for PNW growing forums but I am very cautious as to who I meet with and where period. Just like growing; finding people you would be willing to work with on something like this I suppose patience is key.

Head over to NWGT & get your recommendations confirmed - they have not only co ops listed for patients but grower to patient areas, best way to go, imho!

NWGT? Is that an abbreviation for another forum? Or is it like a screen directory? where is it just nwgt.com? .org?

NWGT is Northwest Green Thumb...nwgt.org...PWN growers and patients who really go the extra step to help each other out. You'll need to verify you're a WA state patient with the Admins, but the people there are great and will help out if you're in need.

I am apprehensive about passing around copies of my recommendation or my old ladies but I will be sure to research this forum and decide from there. Thank you very much for the clarification SinisterBuds.

Hey I need $220 an ounce, cheapest I've ever found here in Seattle is $250 and that's rare. The guy who was doing $250 an ounce ended up getting robbed and beaten and no longer sells(now he's brain dead and was 24 years old, nicest guy, I cry thinking about him). Other guy at $250 lives an hour away.

Who does $220 an ounce???!!?!?!?!?!?

Dispensaries charge by gram, cheapest I've seen was $10, and it was not good herb. It "looked" pretty, smelled fine, but wasn't anything special.

All the dispensaries I have seen so far are cash cropping to an obvious degree.

I agree $220 ounces are out there but hard to find... my old connection has top shelf for $180-$220 but that was a less than legal connection so not the preferred method. Have you used any dispensary directories to try to find affordable cannabis? Or you may need to consider a co-op ones self, but finding someone to head it who isn't all about money is more than difficult also...

Problem I found was dispensaries will only service their own recommendations.....

And the guys I get from probably get it for those prices I just don't have a way to meet people like their connection. If I buy 2 oz I can get $250/oz

I totally understand that, HippySmoke. You can register on the nwgt.org website and talk to one of the admins...They all live in Washington State. You can meet one of them in person and show them your rec from the doctor and they'll verify you. No need to send it over the internet (they delete the rec files once you send them anyways) Either way, you should definitely check it out

Tumorhead you should check out nwgt.org also. People on that forum have a lot of love for patients who are in need.

I am glad to see you understand my issue, and I would in fact rather prefer doing something in person if I decide to join. Hell give me a good excuse to get out to one of the MMJ confab's that go on from time to time through the state.

You also have been quite helpful, I'd rep ya again if I could!
