How much?

I have been using the FoxFarm lineup and their feeding schedule for quite a while now. The schedule calls for certain combinations of the products at various stages through the grow. It also says to apply "every other watering".

It has never been really clear to me what that means, actually. If you live in a dry climate and have to water every day for example, that is different than someone who only needs to water every three days. Also, are we talking about the same volume of fert solution as you would use on a regular watering?

Too many other variables to be able to answer these questions, I know. Just things I have always wondered about. However, I have been trying to dial it in as they say, at least for my environment. I believe I have :). What is working fantastically for me in my current grow is this:

I have 3 gallon buckets, 18 plants, identical soils. Several strains. I decided to pay careful attention to what I'm giving, measuring everything and writing it down. My plants just hit week four of bud and look awesome. Very few yellow leaves, maybe a dozen in the whole grow.

I need to water almost every day. When I do, it's 64 oz. I arbitrarily chose this amount and it seems to be working. I also chose a somewhat arbitrary amount for fert solution on fert days. I say somewhat because I'm sure the previous year and a half or so of growing factored into it. The amount I chose is 40 oz.

I apply the ferts ever other watering, like it says. If the plants are really perky and obviously do not need water, I may skip a day of plain water and delay ferts until after that.

Of course you always have to keep an eye on your plants and adjust accordingly. The reason I think I have it dialed in is because I have over ferted a couple of plants. It takes 6 gallons to fert 18 plants (3 per gallon) and a couple times I have come up short by the end. This means I "missed" a bucket and one got a double shot. This happened a couple times and I am pretty sure those are the ones that show some minor burn. Other plants have signs only at the very tip of a few leaves. I think that means I am right on the edge of over ferting.

I know this is just my situation. I'm sure there are others wondering about the same thing I am. I am suggesting an approach to try and get it dialed in :) Just pick a reasonable amount, be religious about it, and write stuff down. Worked for me.
