how much room does a plant need?

I'm planning out my grow now, trying to determine how many plants i can fit in my limitted grow space....so the question is how tightly packed can the plants be at "ground level" if i start flowering at 12"-18" and it is an indica strain?
:joint: Thanks :joint:

ok...i wasn't very detailed before, how is this. I have limitted room to grow so i found an aeroponics system with a footprint of 15"x15" that says it can support 4 mature plants...that seems a bit tight to me so i'm trying to figure out if that is realistic. i currently have my mothers growing so i can't decide if i should attempt to flower 4 clones at once, or only 2...i am trying to maximize quality...not quantity.....does that make more sense? any help is appreciated.

Okay...two more questions: Do you have a grow cabinet, grow area, or ??, and if a cabinet, what are the dims? I'll throw another that can be asked: What is you light situation [i.e. what are you using?]?

my flowering room is a closet, dimensions are 24"x24"x10' (plently of room to grow up). have 400 watt HPS lighting, and ventilation is handled by a dedicated intake fan and exhaust blower....the limitting factor is space.

Well, IMHO, placing your aeroponic 15" x 15" unit in a space that is 24" x 24", that gives you 4 1/2" on each side of the growing unit, which is ample. Sure envy you having the 10 foot height; you could grow some WHOPPERS!!

Just one more question: How big do you want these plants to get? With four in there, you won't get good light penetration to the bottom of the plants once they take off, but that would mean sacrificing quantity for quality.

I had a thought...you say you have a fem plant already, and you could take clones? Why not start with growing 2 plants full cycle, and see how it plays out? If you see that it could handle a 3rd or 4th, then do it you next grow. But, really, I have to ask again...how big do you want the plants to grow?? Also, do you know the stain?

The strain i'm growing right now is northern lights from Nirvana. I could def. get a ton of vertical growth, but i would rather focus on some insanely potent buds! Your idea of only budding 2 initially was something i'd thought of...i was just being greedy with the thought of budding 4 at once. my plan was to flower them between 12-18 inches, is that a bad idea with the amount of vertical growth i can accomodate?

Northern Lights grows [usually] short and bushy, which makes it ideal for small areas. Your plan of vegging to 12-18" is a good one; if it were me, I would only grow 2 because they will be like little bushes at this height. I'm going to PM you on some other thoughts....
