How much nutes to add when replenishing?

Is there a formula to go by?

I use my EC meter to add nutes to stay at the ppm I want when I add water but...

I also use Hygrozyme, and algae killer, and Liquid Karma and etc...

So when adding water back to my res how do you know how much to add when it comes to the stuff that dont show up on your EC meter?

Thanks!

So the thread title is misleading. I meant to ask how much inert (or basically anything that doesn't show up on the EC meter) material to add back when replenishing the res with water. That's what I meant.

When replenishing the res you only add water, then PH balance. You would add nutes when you do a change over. I do a change over every week, but make up for lost volume with plain PH water.

OK, For 2 months I have been doing it wrong I guess.

I was changing the res once a week. In between on a daily basis I am adding 2-3 gallons a day to 2 res's to keep them at their level....and when adding water back my nute strength DOES go down so I add some Flora Gro from GH for my moms and flora micro to get my ppm back to 1300 which at 70 degrees water temp, 78 air temp, and a ph of 6.0 seems to be the sweet spot.

The title to this thread is fucked. I meant to ask...

"how much Hygrozyme do I add back to the res when replenishing with water?"

and...

"is there any other "inert" ingredients that dont register on the nute meter that I should pay attention to readjusting?...is that too confusing?:-?

One other thing I use that doesn't seem to show up "too much" on the ppm meter is FF Big Bloom...so...?

Nobody else here uses Hygrozyme or an algaecide or any other added material in their res's that can't be monitored AFTER its dumped in the tank? I guess if Im changing it out every week then probably not an issue.

Can anybody sound off on this? It's like pulling teeth to get some help around here but I don't want to stress so I won't...but please let me know folks!

I've often wondered the same thing, but what's worked for me is exactly what one of the previous posters suggested. The assumption I go with is that nothing but water is being used by the plants, aside from the dissolved salts/nutrient solution as far as uptake. What this means is, only the water and/or nutrient solution is what's being sucked up through the plant via its roots. Algaecide and hygrozyme are not dissolved nutrients, so my assumption is that those ingredients are still in the solution, doing their respective tasks. I'd advise only adding water, and/or nutrients to the solution until you can do a full nutrient change/flush. IMO, if you start messing with unknown variables with false assumptions, you're playing with fire. Best of luck!:peace:

Absolutely! I agree. Thanks for clarifying!
