How many people here that grow, just grow for themselves only?

Well, first let me state for the record I never bashed LEDs lol. I just keep coming back to the notion that if they perform (I'd take "as well as", forget better than) anything like HID, using so much less electricity, and the only barrier to using them is capital cost, every serious grower would be using them, wouldn't they?
If they are indeed all they are cracked up to be, then the anecdotal evidence will turn into something that is all the rage and we'll all be buying them.

LED tech has been around for a long time but serious advancements in grow technology are pretty recent. Serious growers would be all over new ways of doing stuff? We live in the world where more people believe in angels than evolution... The simple truth is that light spectrum is the light spectrum, and while HPS waste energy on heat and useless light frequencies, LEDs can be made to only produce the necessary light frequencies with the right intensity. But I see many people posting about how LEDs don't work while they use completely wrong spectrum lights (no joke - seen one kid try using his aquarium LED to grow). Or some Chinese knock offs for less than $100.

a 420 induction light is 700 I think and 420watts produces same amount of lumens as 750wat hps thinking of trying either induction or led's....led's just sketch me out from wat I hear ive heard they don't get good penetration threw a sog

I use two 350W in place of one 1000W. So that only saves me about 30% in electricity (well, the ballast is another 150W so maybe 45%). I've seen some good quality LEDs with 600W and wider than my two for around $1600 - that might be a closer match to a 1000W HPS.

that sounds good ive heard theres led's u can pinpoint perfect spectrum's to make your plant happy from what ive read they might have led's coming out that read the plants mood to ajust spectrum on mood to make them happier ....pretty cool

I prefer using HID lighting due to the increased heat. The reason being is that cannabis grows on a lineal scale . heat + increased c02 + high quality and quantities of available nutrients + attention to detail = an exceptional abundance of the highest quality herb available to me as well as letting the plant show it's true potential in a controlled artificial environment.

That may work when you can manage the temperatures and actually use the heat but if you have a lot of lights you will need to vent the hot air (aka waste energy) or you will bake your crop. I have a my single 1000W HPS without venting right now helping keep the room warm because it's 20 degrees outside but I live in the high desert and summer temp gets up to 120 degrees so keeping temperature below 90 is difficult enough.
