How many people here that grow, just grow for themselves only?

I am amidst my first grow and am wondering how many people are doing what I am? And if you do grow for yourself, is the six flowering plants overkill? I'm thinking there's gonna be some leftovers... I'm just trying to get an idea what it's going to cost me to keep this cycle going on this small scale. So far, it hasn't been cheap and I still have a bit of hardware to acquire. I do know it was the initial investment that is the BIG chunk. I don't know what the electric bill will do, buying nutrients, replacing bulbs.... i

I really do enjoy the process so far. Please give me some input, if you could.
Thanks

Well this is what I say....in a few months you wont be concerned about how much its costing or how much your set up cost...none of those things will matter..... Why you ask?? Let ol Bear tell you why. Because growing is highly addictive!!! LMAO...pretty soon you wont want to leave your grow room, not to mention that your legal to grow your own medicine within the comfort of your own home....its a no brainer!! No going down to the dispencary and leaving your money there....and before you know it you will be trying to improve the system you already have...why?? because your just going to want to hone your skills as a grower and be the best you can be at it....Yup mr sleepybud...thats what ol Bears crystal ball sees happening with you!!! LOL

Enjoy!

Bear hit the mark right there. Growing is ADDICTIVE. Amazingly so. I am constantly thinking about strains I want to grow, improvements I can make.

I grow for myself and have enough to last between grow cycles of around 90-100 days. And my setup is small in comparison to most.
With anything larger than the 250w I use and some plant training you could easily clear an lb. every 90 days, with as little as 1 plant.

I like some variety between cycles so I go with a 3 plant scrog. A scrog setup can really help your yield if you are short on room or wattage.

Check out some scrog journals like this guy Flowamasta, he is amazing https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/570843-flowamastas-methodology-how-grow-monster.html.

I'm very small-time operation. I have a 8 x 4' T-5's for seedlings, and so far an open hood 600w MH. I plan to buy another hood with vent/fan/filter for the 600w HPS bulb I also recently purchased. I've got 6 plants of different strains growing(voraciously) in soil( Pro Mix/ Fox Farm OF- 50-50%). I have all of the Fox Farm Nutrients that I've been following the book per week for feeding. tet has been an incredible, patient, and kind resource for me so far(always, always thanks, man!).

I'm trying to get a patients perspective of what this is going to cost compared to just buying medicine at a dispensary. I went into a dispensary once and wasn't impressed by anything but the scent in the air ;) The prices were worse than street prices! So I want to be able to grow for myself, but still be able to harvest what I smelled in the dispensary. And I do understand that an initial investment of about 1K (plus or minus) is necessary. I'm setting up a nice area in my basement that has an area for seedlings and clones with the T5s, a separate area for veg with the 600w MH, and a flower room with a 600w HPS.

How much do you think my electric bill will increase?

Do you think 6 plants is overkill(for my meager set up)?

Just wondering, plus my girlfriend isn't as jacked up about this as I am ;)

Thanks

P.S. Yes, I'm already enjoying spending time putting stick/anchors in and tying them up, and watering, and making sure the fan is on and the lights are cycling correctly and rotating them when feeding..... but my girlfriend's favorite comment is, it smells like pot down in the basement....and

TIP: As your harvests progress and you find yourself with "overages", learn to make dry ice hash. Your hash will keep far longer than bud, takes up way less space to store and has a THC% approximately 3 times that of bud. Just store it properly and viola, there you go. Good luck on your endeavor !!!!!

Dry Ice Hash? Sounds like a good way to preserve what I've worked for! Thanks for that suggestion! I need to look into this....

where I live @ 39 cents a kilo watt hour a 600 and the fans cost at least 200.00 a month. If I didn't have extras I couldn't afford to run my lights.

It's simple and mess free. You will average 10%-15% hash to bud/leaves etc ( ie 4 zips of bud/leaves will end up being 11-16 gms of hash that will have a THC % around 50, not 15-20 like your bud ) and you can dry ice hash all your trim too. It's a great way to get maximum grammage out of your harvest.

I'm running 6 plants under a 600 with about 300 watts supplemental CFLs. This works out to about 100W which cost me about $1.70/day running 24/7, about half that during flower. Here's a simple calculator to figure your electric costs, you just need to know your KW/hr rate you are paying for electricity.

http://www.citytrf.net/costs_calculator.htm

I ran 4 plants last time, and am trying 6 this time in the same 5X5' area. Got an old and current grow journal in my sig if you want to see how I set up. Have vegged a little over 7 weeks now will be flipping these 6 in a few days.

Last grow was my first indoor and I spent about $750 getting set up. This grow not much expense, seeds, soil, some nutes, a couple new CFL fixtures.

I don't think 6 plants is overkill for personal use, depending on how much you consume you might be able to get by with one grow/year or something.

Good Luck
