The plant tries to use up as much energy as possible with that long of a dark period, and puts that energy into the bud, because it thinks the flowering season is over. It's basically a last ditch attempt to get pollenated, as far as I know. I've never tried it myself, but I've heard it before, and it seems reasonable to me.

I don't believe that the prolonged dark period before flowering causes the plant to produce more trichomes. The only result that I have seen is it appeared to cause the resins to mature, at least they looked more mature, but that may have happened anyway.

So I wouldn't call it the best way, I choose to give my ladies as much light as possible for as long as I can.

I've done it many times with no noticable effects. Cannot say if it does do anything or not, but they sure do look good n' frosty after not seeing em' fer two days ;)

Well, that's a good point, except there are many unnatural things that we put our indoor plants through.

But, when thinking about actual flowering time, the days of flowering are really the nights of flowering, IOW the number of night periods is what makes them ripen. So say you have harvested your plants on Day 66, you have actually given them 65 nights.

Since the number of nights is most important to ripening, the last 48 hours of darkness is actually 1 night, so you are depriving your plants of a night of maturity.

Let's hear it.

Does a plant in nature get 48 hours of darkness before harvest? No
Not that I'm disagreeing.....but in all fairness....does a plant get nutrient doses like we give them, but it does grow bigger? does a plant get to grow through rockwool and hydroton, but it does grow faster? Does a plant get trained to grow different ways, but yields more?

what if I was wanting to harvest half my harvest first?
then wait a week, then harvest the rest?

would I turn the lights off for 48 hours each time?

I could only assume this would be a one time deal...at the final harvest.
Hmm,
what if my buds on the lower half of my plant wernt as developed, n i did that 24 hour lights off before the 1st half of my plant is harvested.
then I do it again once I think it is time, for the other lower half of my plants?
