hold your hand under the light at canopy level. if its too uncomfortable for u then it is also for the plant... i'd invest in a sun systems yieldmaster reflector, 110$

so that is the general rule of thumb? i thought so, so i can lower my light a hell of a lot then..i should have done that sooner...

With proper cooling, the plants should be at least 10" away from the bulb at all times. No amount of cooling will prevent light burn at shorter distances, though. Setting it to 12-13" each day should provide sufficient room for growth.

Any further away than 13" is a waste of the light, as long as heat isn't an issue.

i like to have a small fan blowing over the tops of the plants. this should eliminate a lot of the heat. put something under the containers to even up the canopy.

just keep it as close as possible w/o heating up the tops too much. :)
