You said you're new to vert is why I ask. I never got a straight answer when I was in your shoes so I bought a light meter and took measurements to confirm correct placement. The least amount of light coming off that bulb comes from the top, about 40% of the centers strength at best but in a much narrower beam. The base had about 60% of the centers strength but at a much better, flatter angle than the tip. You familiar with what I'm saying?
