Are western intelligence agencies attempting to manipulate and control online discourse with extreme tactics of deception and reputation-destruction. ...You Betcha...!
warning: yet another Glenn Greenwald Article ahead:

Among the core self-identified purposes of JTRIG are two tactics: (1) to inject all sorts of false material onto the internet in order to destroy the reputation of its targets; and (2) to use social sciences and other techniques to manipulate online discourse and activism to generate outcomes it considers desirable. To see how extremist these programs are, just consider the tactics they boast of using to achieve those ends: “false flag operations” (posting material to the internet and falsely attributing it to someone else), fake victim blog posts (pretending to be a victim of the individual whose reputation they want to destroy), and posting “negative information” on various forums. Here is one illustrative list of tactics from the latest GCHQ document we’re publishing today:

Did anybody NOT know that?

Print and broadcast mediums have been exploited for deception and propaganda purposes since....forever, so why would the "innernetz" be any different?

Any time a message can be sent to the masses, there will be assholes trying to manipulate that message for their own personal gain.

They can try to manipulate me all they want. Someone's else's opinion is not going to deceive my beliefs

Yep. The guys using dozens of accounts simultaneously, to get that bandwagon effect
I usually don't bother with comments sections as they are dominated by trolls, idiots, and propagandists.

Whenever I see any average citizen using "talking points" and "buzzwords" specific to any issue, that tells me I'm dealing with a parrot propagandist, and not a human with original ideas of their own. Those people are written out of the equation, as they lack the ability, or desire, to reason, and obviously have nothing meaningful to offer any given subject.
