How close should bulbs be to plants on light mover?

I am running a shelf garden,with 6x600s on a light rail.
I am able to get the bulbs a few inches from the canopy with no burn but wonder if this may be too close. How close would you Recomend I keep bulbs to plants?

Sweet chart thanks!
Ok so would you say 8-10" is optimal?
Or further? The 6x600s are on a light tree (on a mover) 40" apart(2bulbs per tier) and pretty much 6" under the one above it.

Take your hand, hold your hand 2 foot under the light, raise it until you feel "hot". Lower it a little, that's the 'zone'.

With light rails, I'd say you want to keep them at the same level to an inch or two closer. light movers are meant to distribute light over a wider area not the heat, so much...

Photo on 2014-07-10 at 18.08.jpg Ok i feel i can get 6'' to the bare 600 bulb without beieng to hot for my hand, this picture is @ roughly 10" away from bulb on either side. This is my first time using a lightrail and it is on the slowest speed with a 25 second delay at either end... Do you think this is optimal or having it go faster back and fourth with shorter delay at either end?

Ok just moved the racks closer there is a 6-8" clearance on either side.
Thanks guys.
On a side note what is the optimal way to weave the plants through trellis,I notice a fair ampunt of gaps in my canopy:/

A little history of what happened:
I did some topping at 12"-15" during veg and only vege in the room 8-10 days. (I believe I would of benefited from veging in that room with trellis)
I'm finishing week 5 and the wifi alien is the majority of the room and not really bulkin up except for top rack?
My trellis is fairly tight and snug an I don't allow plants far from it,is this doing any good or should plants be allowed to grow out some distance ?

i saw a thread where a guy hooked up a system where two lights were suspended from the same wire with pulleys about 4' or 5' apart and the wire was hooked to the light rail. so when the light rail moved back and forth, the lights, which acted as counterbalances for each other, would move up and down.

this would be a cool setup for two extra tall silos, two lights, and a light mover and a couple pulleys, lol

i can link to the thread, but it isn't on this site. pm for details i guess...
