Hortilux agromax or other t5 uv/limited spectra light

Looking at the various uv and limited spectra t5 lamps (denoted by "pure" or a nm number like 430), and 10000k / 14000k "finishing" lamps.

@RM3 do you have any experience with these or other options like repti-sun?

Trying to balance quality, quantity and cost.

Thinking about 4-6 2ft tubes to build into a 300 watt led (not counting t5s). This will be my primary flower light but I will also negative with it.

LED is 8 cree cxa/cxb 3070 AB, BB bin 3000k and 3500k driven at 30-60 watts per cob, I also have some 5000k, 4000k and 2700k cobs that i can swap in if wanted/needed.

The Agromax pure UVB is dangerous and must be at least 36 inches off the canopy and not run full cycle, but rather in 15 min burst for the 4 center hours

I would go with the Finisher with UVA and the Pure Par

The pure uv doesn't seem to be a good option for this project. I was abe to find the hortilux locally but not agromax. I picked up a couple of the hortilux veg + uv so I'll have those at least for now. Trying to confirm if hortilux is US made, guess I should have mentioned that as a priority, but I wasn't even thinking there would be a domestic option.

Are you planning on making diy fixtures for the 2' bulbs? I've wanted to add one to my setup but I am not familiar with which fluorescent ballast I would need.

Ballast will be dependent on number of bulbs, some can de wired for multiple configurations ( 1,2,3 or 4 bulbs). IMO ballast factor will be important too, my store bought unit has an instant start ballast that has a ballast factor <1, a programmed start ballast is desireable to preserve bulb life, and ballast factor indicates how close to the bulbs rated output =BFxlumens. Seems the design combats lamp life by under driving the lamps. Edit lumens is what the bulb is rated at, may be easier to think of wattage.

Other factors I am looking at are the vastly different flux rates of the t5 vs my LEDs and how this correlates to the actual light radiation energy at the canopy height. @ttystikk any thought on this?

What I am doing I cannot recommend bc I simply don't know enough about them to make any kind of suggestion other than to search the aquarium nut blogs for things they have done to boost performance. Now the scientists in me wants to rent a light meter, my diy gardener says to listen to the plants.

My setup 240w cxa cxb 3000 and 3500 (3@40w, 4@30w) 4 hortilux veg+uv and 2 10000k finisher agromax driven at an estimated 1.2BF.

Maybe i missed it but i did not see any spectral charts for the agromax so it's hard to compare. Hortilux shows all there spectrums. I am a huge Hortilux fan and love the PowerVEG FS+UV not your typical T5

4-6 of those pure uvb bulbs seems like way too much to me. Just seeing Growmau5' results with 1 or 2 of those bulbs in a much more powerful LED fixture, I wouldn't run nearly as much.

No idea about the veg+uv or finishing bulbs. Try it out and post up some results!
